i cant seem to get it working.
    some people say it works,
    but others mention date/time fixes.

    ive tried no modes,
but no luck with full iso.
isnt it suppose to work with no flattening to dvd5?

How are U ripping the game? Via PS2? HDL can only rip DVD5. If U try a DVD9, it will only rip the first layer. If U ripped using PC, then I think there are 2 D/L in the HDL Update 0.7c, See README:

USE ONLY "/C" FOR THE NEW DVD9 FIX AND
ANYTHING ELSE "/C?" FOR THE OLD DVD9 FIX!

    Hope that helps,

Edit: Sorry, didn't read the post properly, Then look at the HDL 0.7c README!

but im just trying to get substance to work.

Should work with 0.7c and the correct DVD9 patch. I ripped my original using DVD Decrypter and copied it across via Winhiip. No flattening necessary. If you're getting a black screen then the problem is either the iso or your hdloader elf hasn't been patched with the DVD9 fix.
