This USA game is listed as compatible in the hdloader database/wiki, but I have had a weird experience and I'm not sure if it's problematic or not.

I just tried to install the game to my HD from a brand new, fresh out of the box Katamari without a speck of dust or nary a scratch on the thing. The disc loads up to 99%, then pauses for several seconds. Once things startup again I am told that there are errors in the installation and asked if I wanna continue the install or not, with a warning that selecting Yes might result in a game that doesn't work.

The first time this happened, I just selected yes. As the window closed and I could see the status behind it, I saw 16 errors total, and the progress bar along the bottom seemed stuck at 99%. No control ever seemed to return to me at this point so after a few minutes without seeing the yellow light from the HD turn on, I just powered down.

I tried running Katamari Damacy and it did in fact work, but I didn't play the game, I just poked around a bit to see if it functioned. I returned to the Toxic OS and deleted the game and tried reinstalling, this time to the same error after which I selected No to complete the install. Control was returned to the interface immediately but of course, no Katamari install for me then.

That was when I came here to consult the database and I see no notes of errors or weirdness for K.M. in the database. Is there a trick to installing this sucker that won't glitch out? I don't like seeing error messages as my Toxic OS experience has otherwise been great.

Oh well, I guess I got a quirky disc or some imperfection I can't see, assuming my laser isn't dying that is. I have never used winhiip as I use a Mac. I saw someone here recently link to a Mac version of hddump (sp?) though which I downloaded immediately but couldn't figure out how the heck to use. I guess now is as good a time as any to give it a try.

This happens when installing the game Katamari Damacy via HDL on a PS2. Just simply select YES when its askes you if you want to keep the image and play it. 16 errors is completely normal and has no affect on the game playing off of HDL. I beat the game completely and it played fine 100% the way through the game.

Thanks for the information--I was going to this anyway as XDumb has been a big pain in the butt for me to get working, although I haven't given up yet. There are other games that I need to get installed that just don't go at all, Half Life, Contra, etc.

Half-Life, Contra and ANY other CD Rom title simply use CDR Win to make a working BIN/CUE file and then use WinHIIP to transfer them to the HDD and they will work great. CDR games work best from CDR WIN images on HDL.

Please note: On the newest HDL 0.8b Half-Life among some others dont work unless you boot your HDL in MDMA0 mode (holding UP on Digital Pad). any other faster mode and Half-Life will make a loud buzzing sound.

That sounds strange mate. I've got Katamari 1+2 running like a champ on ToxicOS 0.41 ...maybe the retail pressed CD has some digital skip marks on it. :: shrug :: they copied to the HDD with ease as well. (Awesome game BTW)

Fakk2, thanks for the advice on CDRWin, I just used it to back up my Half-Life CD to a .bin .cue
