I was wondering if a burned copy of HDLoader would format my PS2 hard drive it's not the offical HDD b/c if it was I wouldn't need the HDLoader. I saw on a tutorial on formatting the HDD it said you need the retail version of HDLoader to format it I was wondering if that was true for formatting every non-official HDD or was it just that guy who wrote the tutorial prefered the retail version?

As long as you have a mod chip or a way to load the burned cd, being that it is an exact copy, it will format your drive just fine. It doesn't matter if your hard drive is the official Sony drive or not, hdloader will treat it just the same. If you are unable to load a burned cd you may want to look into installing hdloader to your mem card and using the mem card exploit to load your hdloader. This will also allow you to format your drive. Another option would be to use a program like winhiip and put your hard drive into your computer to format it. Whatever you method you decide to use, you should have no problems formatting at all.
