I believe so if you set the controller setup to type C.

It's a lot better to play with an actual guitarfreaks controller though. wailing bonus ftw

Oh you can still get the wailing bonus with the GuitarHero controller. =) I've done so a number of time. you Do have to set the type to C. So far, there's three or so drawbacks to using a GH controller :

1.) The way the controller's designed, the left direction is always being pushed. Go figure, this only offers a problem during song selection. =\ (I in turn just plug in a normal controller for song select and guitar for everything else. Lots of swapping though. =( )

2.) Unlike the GuitarFreaks controller, up and down on the pick are actually mapped to up and down. (GuitarFreaks guitar has both mapped to down) so you actually can't strum (pick up AND down) to get those really fast notes. =( Makes it very hard. You just have to get used to pushing down real fast. X(

3.) You end up using the 2nd, 4th, and 5th buttons. A little awkward at first, but not that bad at all.
