Guide to avoiding the Soul Calibur 3 Glitches
Guide to avoiding the Soul Calibur 3 Glitches –

As a lot of you know Soul Caliber 3 has some pretty bad glitches with the tutorials and other things. You can totally avoid these glitchs by using a hex editor, but for those who are hex shy or don't want to lose any loading speed, it is best to know what to avoid. I tested every aspect of the game that i could come up with and this is what i found:
The only characters that you are able to use in practice/tutorial are:
Nightmare
Astaroth
Talim
Raphael
Cervantez
The only way that you can get these characters to work is if you don't choose any of the glitchy ones to begin with. Once you need to soft reset, these characters will no longer work.
Some of the glitches stem off these glitchy characters in practice/tutorial.
Things that are effected by choosing a glitchy character are:
Options menu is no longer accessable
Black screens on museum items.
Some non related glitchs are:
10+ rounds in free training will cause black screen
100+ rounds in vs mode will cause you to hear a loud train track like sound and only during battle.
Also if you choose 10 glitchy characters and soft reset after every character, the 10th choice will result in a black screen.

I think you need to be more clear on this as regular Practice mode, works with every single character and every single weapon. I tried Tutorial mode and that has a bad buzzing sound, followed by a screen with Olcadan which it freezes, then after a soft reset, you no longer have access to start button menus.
I tried the Museum and that seems like it works fine, at least the kata's anyways.
Another problem I've been having with the game is that the sound effects (like waterfall, etc) are exponentially louder than the actual game music and weapon effects are. I don't know if this is a problem with HDloader or whatnot but the dvd version (retail, original) does not have this issue. My friend's tv does not have simulated surround or any special audio modes and I still get the bad SE. My tv has special effects, simulated surround and all modes off and I still get bad SE. My other friend has the slimline ps2, store-bought copy of SC3, and he has no extra loud SE, can hear his weapon effects fine and music at a good level. I dunno what this problem is but it's the most annoying thing so far.

There's a few things I'd like to throw out there.
First, I seem to get the black museum screen when I first start up the game, so I don't think it's from glitchy characters. Second, I, like an above poster, am able to play Practice mode with a character not on that list without any problems (Mitsurugi).

To not get corrupted saves, turn off auto saving.

There are no glitches if you are using the MDMA0 hex.

Actually, you can still get your save data corrupted if you are running the original disc, so I assume this happens with the hex editted HDLoader, too. Even if you are using the disc, BE CAREFUL. Many people who are using the disc have still gotten corruptions.
By the way, it was found that the corruption is related to deleting data from your memory card. Apparently deleting data can corrupt your file, and many people on GameFAQs have tried and confirmed this. I haven't done it myself, so you'll have to take this with a grain of salt.
Here's the topic if you guys care: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/gen...4532990&page=0
