I have had GT4 for a while now and played it alot, I just went back and I was gonna olay it but it froze about halfway through the opening movie. So I rebooted and now all I get is a black screen. I don't get it, I have played hours of this game from the hard drive and now it quits

Funny I had that happen to me for Tenkaichi today, but reinstalling the game did the trick. It was odd. So just reup the game.

try winhiip scan&repair. don't forget to hit "save" after scn&repair

always use low fragmentation option when installing games from the beginning.

also, dunno if it helps, but after deleting a game, try installing one that fits the size of the one you deleted.

Dragon Quest VIII did the same thing to me for a bit, I did a fresh reinstall and it wouldn't boot up, just a black screen, then one day, it worked again, and then it didn't. I gave up, I only have a few games at a time now, I have lost my whole hdd at least twice, just booted up the ps2 and hdl says the hdd isn't connected, or not formatted, and when checked in winhiip, only a couple games were left on the hdd.

Clysher sounds more like your HDD is crashing.. Your not one of those peaple that just tap the reset button or click off the power switch when ready to shutdown are you?.. Im not asking a stuped quisten here... Even thou it sounds like it..
Many peaple just tap on the reset button or the like and it erups the HDD on shut down witch in turns correpts the games and can even delete them as well (at least some times)...
Plus many peaple have had proublems with there jumper on the HDD.. You my have to replace it if its rather loose.. That could case some of the errors as well.. Ive replaced my jumper twice so far on my Maxtor 250Gig...
Or you may just have a bad connection between the bridge of your NWA and your PS2..
Or a pin might be broke on your HDD..

Many things can cause this error to happen..

scooter what do you mean with "tapping"?

What other way of switching it off is there?
you don't have time to hold the resert button as the ps2 switches off immediately as soon as you touch it when a hdd is inserted and running...

Mc what I mean is that some peaple just push on the reset button and let off real quick like.. While what your suppost to do is HOLD the reset button till the PS2 goes to standby mode.. Then after that (and only after that) you may turn off the power switch in back of the PS2..

    Hope this clears things up..

Scooter what McBeth was saying is simply pressing the "reset" button stops the HD. There is no need to hold the Reset button to stop the power. HD powered PS2's are simple like that. And no that doesn't cause any problems. It's just a bad HD (I Have BOUGHT a few like that Maxtor brand that were bad after a week, but I have some that have lasted for years w/o ANY problems and massive play times).
