Hi, I have a UK PAL copy of Final Fantasy XII that freezes at the FMV when Vayne is giving his speech and starts walking (it freezes at about 1:03 on this youtube video here): [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9S-EEfZAj64&feature=PlayList&p=A00A1D9FDE835229&index =7"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9S-EEfZAj64&feature=PlayList&p=A00A1D9FDE835229&index =7[/ame] I've applied the PAL UK patch but it still freezes here. Has anybody experienced this problem and fixed it? The game works flawlessly other than this. This is on a v10 PS2 and a 0.8c HDLoader, with a Seagate ST3750640A 750 GB HDD. I applied the patch from WinHIIP, if that means anything?

    Thanks

what modes have you tried ? higlight the game in the hdloader menu and press "select"you will get a screen with modes. try a few combos to see what happens.. probably 1 and 3 at first.... i dont have this particular game so i do not have firsthand experience.

I too have the same version of that game (SLES_543.54),and I have played it past that point in the game on my v7 PS2, using HDLoader 0.8b with a Seagate 320GB HDD (the precise model of which escapes my memory right now).

I never bothered with HDL 0.8c since that version was made only for compatibility to one single game (God of War) which I do not use.

I've applied the PAL UK patch but it still freezes here.
I use an unpatched ISO installed for HDL, and then patch it 'live' using a CodeBreaker cheat instead. This was more convenient at the time we developed the patches, as the CodeBreaker cheat could be edited without having to reinstall the game.

Has anybody experienced this problem and fixed it? The game works flawlessly other than this. This is on a v10 PS2 and a 0.8c HDLoader, with a Seagate ST3750640A 750 GB HDD. I applied the patch from WinHIIP, if that means anything?
Assuming WinHIIP performs such patching correctly, and also assuming that you used the latest version of the patch, this should result in the same code changes I get through my different method. The cheat just makes a one-time poke of the same code into the RAM-loaded elf locations that correspond to the ISO file patch locations. So when done properly the result should be the same.

Precisely what patch did you use ?

Some of the early versions had remaining issues with FMV playing, which may be causing your problem.

    Thanks for the responses.

@spud42: I've tried modes 1 + 3 and still get the same problem, thanks though.

@dlanor:I used the patch linked to in the "HD Game Fixes" section here http://sksapps.com/index.php?page=hd.html

I assume that you meant the file far down on that page and named "FF12UK Auto Unstutter Patch Rev2_ppf.zip", which is identical to the original file I have here. I have no idea why this doesn't work for you, knowing that it does work for others, but perhaps you instead want to try the cheat code version of the same patch, so I'm attaching the text file for it to this post.

Like that text explains, this method should be used with an unpatched ISO installed for HDL, and launching HDL through CodeBreaker with the specified cheats active.

Just ignore the "//" headed comments and some separator lines added only for improved 'visibility'. There are only two separate cheats here, one single-liner 'Master Code' and one of 22 codelines that installs the real patch at runtime.

If this method also fails for you, then something may be wrong with the installation/HDD (weak sectors ?). This method works fine here and both patch methods have worked fine for lots of other people, so if they don't work for you I tend to suspect your hardware.

The problem was the installation/filesystem. I did a full format with WinHIIP (luckily I always back up my games, so this wasn't a problem), which took about 3 hours due to the HDD size, reinstalled the game with the patch (linked to on SKSApps) and it all works flawlessly now. Thanks for all the help!

Edit: One last question. In LordBoGami's HDL_DUMP GUI, is it normal to see a windows popup with a red cross stating "Reading CDVD Info" when installing a game to the PS2? I was just a bit worried because the cross is red... I've attached an image of what I'm talking about below

    I'm glad it was resolved.

That is not a 'spontaneous' popup, or any kind of error message. It is just the normal info 'bubble' you get from mouse hovering an entry in the 'system tray'. Possibly the red button (nearly identical to the 'close tab' button of Firefox) will allow you to close an ongoing operation.

    Best regards: dlanor
