    hi i just used ps2zoneloader dvd to boot this on my swapmagic 2.0. it wont play from the hard drive and wouldnt boot without the zone loader before it would just hand at the square logo hope this help you. on another note if you look inside the system.cnf you get this.

    BOOT2 = cdrom0:\SLPM_662.71;1
    VER = 1.01
    VMODE = NTSC
    HDDUNITPOWER = NICHDD

    ive only got xii demo on my pc atm to check with but that last line isnt on it. do you think removing that line and burning would let it boot from hd since if it dosent try and turn the hard drive on it shouldnt hang at the logo

    That's worth a try Tseng. Perhaps it would be safer to use a DVD-RW or transfer the ISO directly to the PS2 HDD.

    We have Final Fantasy XI, it uses the HDD. I'm sure they will include online play through PlayOnline.

    Even if he HD support is removed for NA (as is most likely) it will still probably have the HD check, and if it detects an unnoficial HD it will probably choke. it's not like them to remove a protection feature.

    No the check needs to be removed.

    Anyone know how to go about editing PS2 executable? I've never done it. I've done plenty of *simple* patches for xbox games, but I'm sure they are considerably easier.

    I'm assuming one would have to extract the entire contents of the game to your hdd somehow (winrar? an ISO program?) and then edit the ELF file to remove the HDD init string. (What to replace with? "FF FF FF"...?) And then repack into an ISO? (This is where I am uncertain how to go about it. I am led to believe that the files are needed to be in a very particular order (unlike xbox) because all the tutorials for burning a PS2 ISO are very particular about this. Perhaps someone with more knowledge than I could give it a shot? Or give me a hand?

    its not that its unoffical that makin it choke. its when the hd is already powered up it has the problem. the game itself not installed to hd hangs at the same point if i dont use zoneloader swap before the game pretty wierd.

    Harddrive support in the NA release will not be removed as this game requires PlayOnline for the online mode. And as we know, PlayOnline is installed on the hard drive.
