Def Jam FFNY NTSC on FAT V5 PAL - black screen issue

Hi guys I have some problems with my current (temporary) HDD setup and I can't firgure out why the game won't run. Let's start from the whole setup:
PS2 FAT 30004R (V5) PAL
Network Adapter with LAN & Phone (Made in Japan)
6GB Fujitsu HDD
Patched HDLoader 8c (with the GUI patcher which I've found here)

Yesterday I've searched the forums and a couple of users from here are saying that they have the Def Jam: Fight for NY on their HDDs but I can't make it :(

So I have an original NTSC version of the game which I've backed up and it runs with ESR without any issues but the loading times are pain in the a** and I tried different "ways" to copy/patch the game with WinHIIP but without any success... Tried the "New HDL Patch - usbMCemu", used comp. mode 3 (as per instructions) and again - the horrible black screen appears :(

Can you give me some guides because since it is the third consecutive game which I'm not able to play on the HDD I'm already thinking that the one which is missing something is me...

Hi and thanks for the reply ;) I'm familiar with the list and is checked already - it's marked as runing without anything in addition :( I also found a couple of posts here - they say its running but I can't find out why it's not happening in my case :(((

How are you installing your game? What program did you use to rip it?

Thank God it worked! The method was with hdld_srv and the hdl_dump!

so it worked using hdl-dump or WinHIIP1.7.6 ?

I've made/format the HDD with WinHIIP 1.7.6 and transfered the game with the comp. mode 3 also with WinHIIP and the only thing that happened was the black screen :/ Then I used the hdld serv and the hdl_dump to transfer the game again and I THOUGHT it worked (because it shows the Loading screen) but than it freezes on the Loading :( I've tried with the clean HDL and with more than 8 combinations of patched ones (with different modes and fixes checked while patching) and I can't get it runing :( Tried also transfering the game from the original DVD but the same thing happens - the loading screen shows up, animates for 4-5 seconds and then it freezes :(

I'm using FMCB to boot than uLF 4.38b to run the HDL .ELF.

One of the things which I don't figure out how to apply is the UDMA and MDMA settings - in which cases which setting must be used and how exactly does the correction of the mode in the HDL (with the pad button combinations) works?

Have you tried a different version of HDL? I kept having trouble with 0.8c, so I use 0.8b.

Actually - no... I've tried only the original/clean 0.8c and variations with the same one but patched with different settings. I'll give the older versions a try ;) Thanks for the advice!

One more thing - I'm formatting another HDD at the moment and I set it to 24B HDL - could that be the problem? I can't remember 24 or 48-Bit was the first hdd formated... Also I've found in another thread here in the forums something about "put a disk in drive - if it runs than it's /s (stop disk) patched instead of /n (no-seek)" how this sounds to you?

I'm kind of thinking that I've also mistyped my ps2 model... It's a 50004R not e 30k one as stated above.

The PS2 model doesnt matter on this end as I know your PS2 is compatible with HDL..

Also the 28-48bit formation would not matter on drives less then 127GB's..
The 48bit patch is only for HDD's higher then 127GB's as using a 28bit HDL would only show 120GB's on say a 200GB HDD..

Also it does sound like its a HDL issue..
If the game plays fine (original or your ESR copy) then we can rule out the game from the disk being the issue..

I do remember that I once had that game and I believe I used mode 1 + 3 with in my settings of HDL (try that first)..

I know I never used a 6GB drive as you had posted.. The lowest GB drive I ever used was an 8GB Maxtor and that gave me issues as the sectors where all kinds of screwed with the low disk space that was needed for the HDL settings (that could be the issue as well)..

2nd thing to try (as you dident state the size of your 2nd HDD) is to try an HDD that is at least 20GB and report back..
