    I've tried it with 0.8b, on a variety of modes, but I just get a black screen each time. Has anyone found a way?

    No the Japanese version doesn't work on hdl, but the one on the Sega Classics Collection US works.

    Oh really? I was under the impression that the Sega Classics one didn't work. Thanks. Any modes needed?

    No modes, according to http://list.ps2hd.com/index.php
    The US version works, but it seems the UK one doesn't.

    us one never worked for me.
    ps2hd also says that capsule monster colluseum works with mode 3, and it always freezes for me at some time or other.

    I have Sega Classics Collection (NTSC|U/C) installed on my HDD. All games work, except for Virtua Racing...

    When you select it, all you get is a black screen = /

    I tried the VMC Toturial for the game .iso modification, and now the game starts, and I can actually see the game intro (demo) for as long as I want. But as soon as I press Start button, black screen again .
    I think that the problem before any .iso modification, was that SYSTEM file was like originally this:
    BOOT2 = cdrom0:\XXXX_XXX.XX;1VER = X.XXVMODE = PAL
    instead of being like this
    BOOT2 = cdrom0:\XXXX_XXX.XX;1
    VER = X.XX
    VMODE = PAL
