WINHIIP V 1.65 Problems
WINHIIP V 1.65 Problems –
I just found out about WinHIIP v1.6.5 (and may I say its a great piece of software ). I started using it and installed games fine. I installed a game off a DVD and that also installed fine. I unplugged it from the PC and put it into the PS2 everything loaded fine until it told me that the PS2 HD had to be reformatted to be able to be used. I powered off and plugged it back into the PC without reformatting and backuped my games. After I backuped my games I plugged the HD back into the PS2 went ahead with the reformat.I then plugged the HD back into the PC and Re-Installed the games. Then I plugged it back into the PS2 and it still told me that it needed to be formatted. This question hasn't really been answered and the only solution I possibly read was using Hexworkshop to edit some sectors. If someone could tell me step by step how to fix it with Hexwork shop I would appreciate it. Or if there is another way to fix this problem please let me know.
normally this bug should be fixed with 1.65
Yeah I know, I read about 1.64 having this problem also which was supposed to be fixed in this version. I really dont get it as everything was working fine and this came out of nowhere. Its been 3 days without playing the PS2 and I still haven't passed GTA SA :'(
Have you used the Erase Drive function in WinHIIP before using the Format function?
If not then this is your problem as there must be some bum data in sectors 2 to 15. I did mean to make V1.6.5 set these to zero when formatting but forgot. The actual problem with V1.6.4 was that it did the erase with $AA's instead of $00's.
You could try HexWorkshop.
First select the drive.
Then use [ALT] + [DOWN ARROW] twice to get to sector 2.
Then click in the data window and start holding the key down until you have set all the bytes to $00. Then use [ALT] + [DOWN ARROW] to get to the next sector, at the save question answer 'Yes'.
Repeat this procedure until you have got to sector 16.
Then try the drive again.
Thast great I got a reply from the maker himself GadgetFreak. I will try it out right now and let you know whats up
All bytes were already set to $00 from Sectors 2-16. Is there anyting else that could be causing this problem :S
I presume that when you plug the drive back in the PC and use WinHIIP it still lists all the games?
Does WinHIIP report any checksum errors?
If it doesn't, then I am a bit stumped. What happens if you just use HDLoader to install a few images, reboot & attempt to play them?
You could also enable the debug mode, run WinHIIP & select the PS2 drive, then exit WinHIIP, look in its folder & zip/rar up the *.bin & *.log files and send them to me. I'll pm an email address.
Alright cool. I'll get the files right now and send them to you. Thanks for all your help.
Alright files have been sent. Hopefully you can figure out whats wrong.
Do you have Ghost9 installed? I found that Ghost9 corrupts the drive in a way that HDLoader will force you to format it.
