Ok this one thing I can have you try.....
Go to my youtube page, and I have a video showing you how to COMPLETELY FORMAT a HDD back to PC Visibility..
OK, once you do that, then try to format that sucker with WINHIIP (48bit), and then see how it works out...

Check the jumpers too, some HDDs have an extra jumper in a spot called 'cap Limit', so make sure there isnt one in it.
Edit*
Ahh, i just re-read your first post:
Unless you have done some modifications, SATA HDDs wont work in the PS2, so theres no need to bother formatting it to PS2 Format with Winhiip. Just leave it as NTSC and the games can remain as ISO images. Then when you want to install them to a HDD your using on the PS2, you can simply tell Winhiip to browse that HDD.
PS2 Consoles:

SCPH-30001-R [V5] DMS4 Pro SE
SCPH-50001-N [V9] CC 2.0 SLE
SCPH-79001 [V16] Silver - unmodded

Thanks for your info JNABK .But i need that for ps2 format because i can't remember modes for all games.you know waht i'm talking about. Also i posted that i will not use that in ps2 ,If i use hdd as pc format each iso will loose the modes applied while a ps2 hdd remembers all the modes and patches.

I can understand the reason, but all you have to do is write down what modes are applied in a text document, thats what i have done for all my games.
I think the SATA drive might not be compatible with Winhiip or the PS2 format, but its your choice on how you want to go.
I can only suggest what i think could be a solution.

I guess I looked right over all that J, and didn't even think about him using a SATA drive..
I'm not sure of the compatibility with WINHIIP?
But a .txt with modes on it should be good enough, unless he has 100's+ games
.
Just a plain (unpatched) .ISO of the game is what I have all mine backed up as, on my external HDD 1TB IDE, so I know I have a clean version of the game..
