After some frustration with the drive spinning up *after* HDL told me the drive was messed up, I finally read the FAQ on HDL and set the jumper to master
BUT that was done before all the stuff above was tried.
Let me rephrase the first sentence: HDL won't detect a WinHIIP-formated drive AS a formated drive - it sees it as an unformated drive. It then auto-formats, but essentially freezes. I know its a 5400rpm drive, but formatting can't take over 10 minutes...
The funny thing is that after I used WinHIIP to format and instal GTA5 and was forced to format it again by HDL, WinHIIP then reported that it had no HDL partition or whatever. When I get my new ps2/chip, I'll definately be trying a different drive.
