winhiip 1.6.3 keeps corrupting my images...any advice? –

i used winhiip to format my 200gig. then from there on out i used hdl_dump to load the games since it seems to do it a considerable amount faster than winhiip. however, after installing ~30games i tried out winhiip. worked ok at first so i installed like 15 with it. but then i went back to hdl_dump since it supports .imL.
now, everytime i run winhiip 1.6.3 it claims i got a "Bad.Partn" and it wont change.
i booted the ps2 and sure enough, the games marked bad parition do not boot. ive noticed in the options of winhiip that it has a "Reduce Fragmentation" option, which is great to have if its implemented correctly, but is it?
not sure why hdl_dump works flawlessly for me, and winhiip does not. i understand that if winhiip says the partition is bad, it shouldnt work, but is winhiip causing this problem?
also, in future versions of winhiip it seems that it will use the hdl_srvr.elf of hdl_dump. once winhiip utilizes this file, is it likely that winhiip will cause complete corruption, or will it finally work perfectly fine with hdl_dump? They don't seem to like each other now.

Such problems has been reported several times already. You should not mix installer programs... yet. Otherwise you already know what would happen. If you found out how to corrupt the HDD data (almost) always, submit a bug report to the authors.

First off, hdl_dump will not load games considerably faster than WinHIIP, they are about the same speed. If you have a speed issue then I think you have some problems with your windows configuration as WinHIIP is an MFC app.
The "Reduce Fragmentation" option works flawlessly, and is the reason why WinHIIP can fit far more images on a drive than any other app.
Earlier versions of WinHIIP did have partition bugs in them, but since V1.6.1 these have all been corrected.
When I enable the networking option in WinHIIP it will use the "hdld_svr.elf" which runs on the PS2 and is purely a HD sector R/W server. "complete corruption" will NOT occur.
There are no compatability issues with using hdl_dump & WinHIIP, although it is better if you boot the drive in the PS2 after using hdl_dump as it does not update the HDL Settings log. Therefore if you use hdl_dump and then use WinHIIP it will report that "orphan" partitions have been found and allow you to add them to the HDL Settings log.
What versions of WinHIIP have you used to install these images?
Why have you not reported this problem at the PSX Forum?
WinHIIP can create debug/log files which help identify problems, have you made these?
Are you certain that you don't have any app installed on your PC that might be affecting HD access such as Virus checkers, drive temp. monitors or drive imaging apps. These have all caused random errors for other people.
Don't flame the app without making any effort to sort out why your problems are occuring, 1000's of people are quite happily using WinHIIP & hdl_dump without any problems.
If you have something against WinHIIP don't use it and then you won't have any problem with it!

Gadget, I have a similar prob... use winhiip 1.6.6 through usb to ide cable. After formatting and installing 2-3 images, I get an error claiming "error reading HD" or "partition collision" ... then I have a bad partition on the HD and it can't be read. I have to re-format.
My question is are there specific settings I should be using when I format (this is a 160gb drive)? Or is there anything else you can suggest? Thanx

Use 48bit in options, also use the new winhiip. Thread closed because you are using an old version
