I also remember a yellow light blinking when i was openning my ps2 when it was working. Now i don't see it!
I never did it myself, but I've read of a problem like this that happened to others when they had 'blown' a network adaptor by short circuits, and were then unable to have a replacement network adaptor work at all. Apparently the PS2 motherboard has some miniature fuse (may look like a normal surface mounted resistor/capacitor) which feeds power to the network adaptor, so that a shortcircuit in that external (to the motherboard) circuitry will not harm the main PSU, but only blow that fuse.
Most likely this is what has happened to you, so you will need to desolder that fuse and resolder a replacement for it, in order to make the new network adaptor work.
Unfortunately I don't recall how to identify that fuse, and it probably differs for different motherboard models anyway. But hopefully someone else in this forum can give you the straight info on that.

I agree as it looks to be an internal issue with your PS2 now as your grounding out your system in some way..
Would be better off to just pawn or trade that system in to get another (as game shops as well as pawn shops do not check NA status on used PS2's - All they care about is if the units can load a DVD/CD)..
I state that as these fuses can be rather small and precision is a must at times..
More hassle then its worth at times as well..
Also you may "next time" just format the HDD through HDLoader or through ULE and install games via HDL Dump Helper GUI v2.0 as I have yet to have an issue with that software on any systmes (Windows Vista x32 & 64 as well as Windows 7)..
I love WiinHIIP like all the rest however I have had nothing but issues with in on systems running OS's above XP..

Its not impossible.. Its just in practical..
There are kits called "HDCombo" that you can buy (must soldier 30+ wires) that will allow you to use IDE drives..
however this would make the PS2 just about as big & heavy as a Fat PS2..
Also the kit will not work on v14+ models as the "board" was changed and the points to soldier the combo is no longer available..
The kit would also cost about as much as any used Fat PS2 that you can pick up..
Posted below are the pinouts needed to be soldiered..
..................
Only other thing you can do with the slim is use USB in closers as well as OPL's SMB
(Streaming games via home network) <-This is how I have my v12 ran right now and works great via SMB (USB is sluggish on many games however)

Hi
I ran into this problem today when I tried to install my Seagate 500GB HDD. I tried to format with WinHiip but it game me the same error about not being able to format. However, when I went to disk management in Windows 7, I deleted the whole partition, I was able to format it in Winhiiip without any problems. right click "computer", manage, disk managment, find the HDD and delete all the partitions.
Then I ran into another problem. When I hooked it up to my network adapter, HDL 0.8c 48bit just stuck at the loading screen. So I used my 2nd network adapter and finally it worked. the 1st network adapter was made in Japan, it didn't like the 500gb, the 2nd one was made in China and it worked perfectly.
However, I did notice with the drive it takes HDL about 10 secs to spin up, but fine after that.
So try a different NA if you can. I just use my made in japan NA for my friends 80GB HDD.
