Hi! I'm trying to format my 500gb hdd to ps2 mode but Winhiip shows this message:"There has been a problem writting to the hard disc drive!" and i cannot format the disk no matter what.

The hdd is formatted to NTFS & connected on the motherboard with IDE cable and works great.

I have tried to set compatibility mode and to run it as admin but it never works!
Virtual PC is not an option because it only supports virtual drives so im lost.

Is there any way to format the hdd from the PS2 or is there anything else i can do?

Hi, its plugged on the motherboard directly with a normal IDE cable and connected to the PSU.

Just like you do with any HDD.

    The HDD itself works 100%.

with vista and 7, I think you need to right click on winhiip executable and use the compatibility tab to set the mode to win xp, and you need to run the program as "administrator" for it to work correctly.

I have tried all these my friend , but thanks .

I think i have found a solution...im now formatting the HDD.

I downloaded VMWare workstation and installed windows 32bit.

Then in diskparted.exe i did the following:

    http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-10455
To use the whole physical disk under Server 2008 and Windows7, the most easy way is to put the disk offline. To do that start diskpart.exe and select your disk, then enter "offline disk", then "attribute disk clear readonly", then "rescan". That's how simple (and safe) it can be!
And right now im doing a partial format!

I would love to see a proper solution though because that's not the best thing to do.

You could format it from uLE also. So no need to hassle with Winblows.

The hdd is set to master by the way.

I also remember a yellow light blinking when i was openning my ps2 when it was working. Now i don't see it!
