we all know hdloader can run programs from the hard drive that normally run from cdrom.

my question is, why can't an image of snes station with roms be installed, and be set to load them from the hdloader partition? why can't ps2reality media player be installed with a divx file, and it load the file off the hdloader partition? shouldn't the media player "see" the hdloader partition as cdrom0?

i know you can't do these things, but what is the difference from a game doing it, and a homebrew doing it. :?

Official games use sony's official sdk. Homebrew does not. (Interestinly though, alot of sjeep's programs seem to work flawlessly with hdloader)

is that you ToN ? why are you reborn?

but sjeeps programs can nativly run programs off the HDD... i'm talking about homebrew that cannot run nativly off the hdd. just like games, they can't load their data nativly off the hdd, but hdloader enables this. in the game. not in homebrew. for some reason.. maybe you are right about the sdk thing.... but don't both load CDVD.IRX from the rom?

The next version HAD hdd support. But the project is dead now, and no new media player will be created.

Official games cannot run off hdd natively, however, HDLoader (sjeep) replaces some of the game's modules to make it do so. The problem with homebrew is that it does not use the same modules as official games, (bc that would be warez) and that is why HDLoader gives an error when trying to install homebrew from CD. It basically canot see any modules to replace, therefore saying its an invalid ps2 disc.

...relative to my question before - installing such a "SNESstation disc" via the ps2+ hdloader gives this error...BUT if ripped onto the HD via a pc and say winHIIP it would work no problem then ?

If your selfmade app calls CDVDMAN from the BIOS it'll work, but if it uses the custom one with different name (in case of MediaPlayer) then HDL can't see it. And before you try, the custom one most propably uses different parameters to call it so simple renaming will most likely result as a failure.

bennjamin, HDLoader the software gives you an error. If it wasnt programmed to give you an error, it would just dump all of the homebrew cd's contents into an iso on the hdd, but it booting would be almost completely based on the homebrew's ability, instead of HDLoader modifying it.

If you use one of the programs for pc->hdd transfer, it will not give you this error, just because it isnt programmed for it. However, to get homebrew to work this way with hdloader takes a few extra steps, and is overall useless, as the min partition size is 128MB, menaing chances are you are wastine alot of space.
