its pretty quick(bout 5-10 seconds on my western digital 250 gig HD), but i guess it depends on the drive you use. In theory it should take longer if you have more games, but it shouldnt be a long wait. In any case, I think there wouldnt be much difference if you just add/remove ONE game.
Unfortunately you are wrong. The entire game list must be rebuilt the first time HDL is used after any new game install/remove operations in WinHiip, regardless of how many games were affected by the changes. So the only factor in the resulting delay is the total number of game partitions involved and their complexity (due to possibe fragmentation).
The reason for the long delay is that it is not sufficient to just find the starting sector block of each game partition, but every one of those partitions must also be temporarily 'mounted' in order to extract additional information about the installed game for inclusion in the game list. It is this mounting of partitions to extract that information which consumes the majority of the delay time.
That is also the reason why the uLE HddManager has a special command for viewing the HDL game information of a selected partition, because otherwise uLE would have to perform the same slow scan which HDL does, in order to build a list of such information. (And of course uLE can never rely on the list made by HDL, as that may be invalidated.)
Best regards: dlanor
