what can cause a ps2 hd to 'die'?
what can cause a ps2 hd to 'die'? –
im worried that someday my ps2hd and its games will all 'die', deleted etc... what can cause it and the solutions to prevent it?
Sometimes inserting it into the computer might kill it. My slave hd's have sometimes been told to reformat in my computer. but then again my computer is old and blah blah blah. Maybe the quality could be a factor aswell since people i think have been having probs with the WD and some havent. Supposedly sea gate is the best. but i dont think hard drives where meant to last forever anyway. [Thats where they get ya]
i haven't inserted my hd on the computer yet since ive been installing games using hdloader not winhiip. will that make the 'lifespan' longer?
all depends on how new/old the drive is. It most likely will. Since your doing it on your ps2 the only thing thatll probably go quickly is the laser. but your not going to be using that as much since playing from hard drive. Like i said hdd's werent meant to last forever. the ones that probably are are externals. but then again internals came first and have been around longer. It's most likely in the quality [like before]
wait about the laser, ive been playing original games and at the same time games on the hd. do you guys think that will be ok? another thing that's been bothering me with the laser is i use a cd-r copy of hdloader 0.7c to load my games... any thoughts on that?
if your just using the laser to read a cd based game then your fine and even with dvd based game. Since your only reading it for a little bit and then playing from an hdd then the laser is only used for a few. youll be fine on that. If you play a burned game on a dvd-/+r for hours on end on bad media then of course your laser is gonna run a marathon trying to read it especially rpgs since they are the longest or even other games like madden. which can take up hours of peopels lives. [to save the laser use better quality media simple as that only if your playing a game off the cd/dvd drive and not from hdd]
so ur saying dvd burned disc can cause the laser some problems unlike originals then?
i find that ps2 have easier time reading dvd-r than cd-r. so try to burn hdloader on dvd-r and use that instead. imho burned discs will cause more stress to the laser compared to the originals.
yes they do, DVD/CD burned media stresses out the laser a lot, just like kioshi said, on RPG's is even worse. The cheaper the media, the faster your laser will die. It's due to the fact that since it's cheaper (made with less quality materials) it forces the laser to work harder in order to be able to read from the disc causing the laser to die quicker. The PS2 has great games, but the hardware itself, blows.
I had the same problem, I sent my PS2 to one of those places where they make PS2 mods,
