Hi...here is my official Release of the HDD V12 hack...i came to the decision to make it public coz' only the public can make it more useful than just a specified team...there is still much to do and to test...i wanna see a solution with an external HDD case and an easy to solder pcb or maybe solderless in the market...have phun with it

    Note:
it just runs fine with HDloader from CD...(diz was the software pointed by the rumors...)
no need to desolder something...just hook the wires to the desired pin#...

    known Bugs:
in my tests HDL wants to format HDD every time when you switch on PS2 but
i used long 40 conductor IDE cable not shielded ! maybe short 80 conductor shielded cable could fix that problem...

    Special thanks to :
    Lacyg for detailed pics...
and unknown for some tips ;-)

this is very tempting..................... especially for a noob with little soldering practice, and only thick solder. (had the practice well, took electronics for four years in high school, but its been 4-5 years SINCE high school ended soooo)

What kind of limits on hard drive size are we talking? Least / most usable?

I havent heard the terms 40 and 80 conductor before, whats the difference / what do they mean? Im willing to rip my ps2 apart and try I just need the extra info.

    Hi,

    this is cool!!

How you connect the HD to POWER? The hard disk uses +5v and +12v, isn't it?

Sorry, but my english is poor.

    HI,

    this solution is very nice.
But the problem is only with the power for the hdd.
We can only get the power outside of the ps2.

Yes that can work if there are enough power in the ps2 psu and if the usb fuse dont blow (if there are any fuse)

to zann86: you can try using +5V USB voltage for a 2.5" HDD and for a 3.5" HDD you can use an external PC power supply for +12V and +5V

to havocxrush: soldering skill is the same needed to install a mod chip and HDD limit is the same limit HDLoader accepts

Most (all?) newer 2.5" HDDs has two +5V-supply-lines, and the startup-peak for the drives are 1.0 Amp. I have no idea if this is too much for the 5V-points one can find inside the PSTwo?

automan: Did you figure out the problem with HDL wanting to reformat the HDD on every cold-start?

Has anyone tried this, to get an activity-LED:

to thomas: best solution is to connect a 5V regulator like a standard 7805 to ps2 main supply 8.5V...main power serves 5 Ampere so that's enough to connect a bunch of HDDs...i could not fix the reformat problem...i don't have the time to fix it that's why i make this public...maybe some other out of the community can fix it...

the formatting problem is a software problem me thinks. So what we need is a modified version of HD Loader....I'm no programmer so i can't help unfortunatly.
