  1. #1 using hdl_dump and winhiip?

I was warned that hdl_dump and winhiip could not be used on the hd together. One should use one of them exclusively, otherwise the hd will be messed up. Is it true? Any comments on this?

And does anybody know the negatives for winhiip?

Ok, Ill set the records straight. You can use one program, say WinHIIP, then when you Want to use another app, you must put the HD back into the PS2 and let HD Loader read it. Then you can use another program. So basically, when you want to sue a different program, make sure you have used the HD with hd laoder.

Let me tell you something, don't ever mix those two programs together. I learned a lesson the other day when i tried to use winhiip to delete an image. Somehow winhiip decided it would be smart to delete my ELF partition as well and at the same time trashes my APA parition table, of course this makes Hdldump and winhhip useless since it can't read the contents of my hdd. The only solution i found out is to wipe it clean so if you use hdldump stick with it.

According to my expirience you should not use WinHIIP immediately after hdl_dumx. If you really need to, then put the HDD in the PS2 and boot HD Loader first. The oposite works correctly - if you use WinHIIP you can safely use hdl_dumx after.

PS: anyway, IIRC there was a WinHIIP version that worked just fine when started after hdl_dumx, it just marks hdl_dump games as `orphans' or whatever, but you've got an option to preserve those games. Don't know about the latest version, thou.

The Orphan mode is still in V1.6.6 and works fine, the only reason there is any problem is that hdl_dumx does not update the HDL Setting file, whereas WinHIIP wants it all to match. It was only later I found out that HDL will remake it automatically it its not upto date :-(

If WinHIIP did this then you either had an invalid partition chain or you have something interferring with drive access on your PC. This could be hardware or software. I will probably start locking the drive in the next release, this should at least stop any software issues from affecting access.
