using hd without cd

hello guys .. im new here , iv searched the site and tried to fined a solution to my problem ,

so i have a ps2 with broken lense ... can i play games with hd without using the cd ...

i am unable to use the hd-advance or hd loader .. couse it will will need a cd to boot the progrime right ... so is there any way to make the ps2 to load from the hd directly... like uptading my bios ... or booting from memry card ..

You must havea modchip that has devolution mode 1 or mode 2 in order to do that. Matrix Infinity supports both modes.

Devolution mode 1 = direct boot elfs from mem card
Devolution mode 2 = direct boot elfs from hdd.

I'm booting my HDL directly from hdd with MI.

how can i know the v of my mode chipe and the devolution mode 1 or mode 2

can i use the hdloader cd that i make .. then connect my usb hd to another ps2 and install it on the hd .. after that connect my usb hd to my ps2... will it work ..

I am booting HDD Loader from the memcard using the Icerevolution code programmed onto a Scenix / Ubicom sx28 chip just soldered to the ps2's rom chip and reset. My cd / dvd rom is completely disabled as I have unsoldered the power wires that go to the servo chip that controls focus , tracking, disc draw etc.

So far all I can get is the HD Loader splash screen then it hangs my ps2 is a v9 (scph-50002). Perhaps you may be more successful if your drive at least spins the disc up.

Basicly most chips that have a dev mode also have a boot menu d-m-s three / four Matrix Infinity, Modbo maybe. You need to check out their sites to find out the controller button to try pressing when booting to get the boot menu to come up then you could work out which chip you have and follow the instructions to use devolution modes to boot HDL.

Failing that I think there is a sticky thread in the modchip forum where you can see installation diagrams for most modchips you'll have to take your ps2 apart and find out which chip you have that way. BTW if you have a d-m-s four mod it may say toxic on the playstation 2 logo screen.

Unfortunately I don't think that'll work with most modchips although I don't have any experience using usb hard discs. The original HDL and it current patches don't do anything with usb drives. I don't know if the later USB HDL version can be booted from usb I doubt it though.

Devolution mode works like this. In a mem card the elf (must be named as boot.elf) will be installed in a folder boot. It would be like this mc0:boot/boot.elf. When you power up the PS2 a button has been assigned (for Matrix Infinity is R1) to launch the elf.

Same goes with hdd. A partition named __boot must be created and the renamed application elf (boot.elf) must be installed into this partition. The same procedure needed if you want to launch the elf from hdd by pressing the assigned button (for MI is L1).

if its easyer by booting from the memory card ... ill do it ... and if .. please refer the best way / or program needed ...

First of all if you have a modchip, open up your PS2 and look what modchip it has. If you're unsure, take a pic and post it at the mod forum. Most of the people there can help you out to identify it.

If you don't have any modchip or your current modchip doesn't support devolution mode, I would suggest you to install one that has devolution mode support. You can choose either Matrix Infinity, D M S 3 or 4, Ghost2 or even a cheaper chips that use Ice Rev. code such as Subzero2 chip or Ninjamod.

Last week I was given a 39002 PAL by a friend and he said that his PS2 is dead. It came to me with everything taken apart even the dvd drive (the laser also gone). I managed to put it all together and it booted fine, only the dvd drive can be used as all the ribbon cables for it are totally messed up. I'm planning to put MI in it and buy a NA so that I can run my games from hdd and launching HDL from the hdd.
