Uses of HDD on PS2

What are the uses of HDD for PS2 besides booting games from it and booting homebrew apps?

Well I haven't gotten my ps2 fixed to do it yet but supposedly one can store divx movies on it to watch with SMS, would require modchip to get sms going methinks. I thought it was a bland idea at first but the idea of having a lotta my movies available without switching dvd's in and out all the time is convient.

Store movies, songs, games, other files, play sega games from it, launch homebrew, install linux etc. And you do not need a modchip at all to run any of this or SMS. Just the exploit and please do not ask how GTF.

if your looking im sure sksapps or exploitstation has it. i think sms is rubbish, i cant get it work work whatso ever. but if you can get it to work, cheers for you man.

The independence exploit only works on the old large ps2's for installing sms with no mod chip. If you wanna run sms on a slim, either copy it from someone elses MC, get a mod chip, or your screwed.

Just out of curiosity, did you try to boot SMS from MC/USB through uLaunchELF? It seems to me that you are trying to boot an SMS image from HDLoader... and perhaps that's your problem. Just a thought.

Shouldn't it work using cogswap? I'm not using that but I think I've read somewhere it worked. Sorry if I'm wrong, I haven't checked the SMS manual. Just visit its link: http://www.sms.psx-scene.com

Just out of curiosity, did you try to boot SMS from MC/USB through uLaunchELF? It seems to me that you are trying to boot an SMS image from HDLoader... and perhaps that's your problem. Just a thought.

My cd/dvd drive is broken at the moment. Can I run SMS from a USB memory stick and play movies via the network from my pc?

If your PS2 is modded with a devolution capable chip (I suppose so, since you are still using it without cd/dvd drive), I think the answer is yes. At least uLaunchELF may launch SMS from USB memory stick or any other place it accesses. Nevertheless, you first have to install uLaunchELF (or any other launcher with access to the USB drive) on your MC, as I see it.
