USB with ps2menu-k !!!!!!!

ok..u know when ps2menu loads and it gets to the hdd,irx file and loads , it initilizes the hard drive .... if i were to rename the usbd.irx to hdd.irx... it would lond the renamed usd.irx file... would this then maake it think that the usb is indeed a HD?

imma try it when i get more cd-r's./..but if someone has any ideas , lets hear em....

I know this can be done with irx files that have the same purpose... for example umcdr.irx to cdvd.irx and ps2atad.irx to ps2atad48bit.irx. That is an interesting idea, I wish I had some pendrives or something to test with. You whill have the make the two irx files the same size meaning the substitue file must be the same size as the original. Good luck I bet some people would love for you to succed at this.

what would this achive, just install exploit from usb? would be nice if you could start hdloader without a ps1 disc.

this would provide a hopefully stable way to transfer your .elf files back and fourth with your pen drive without using CD's or a networked ps2.... and could possibly have alot of potential to be used in doing somthign else, liek having an external HD connected to the usb .... if anyone wants to try it, by all means please do.... i dont have any cd's to burn on and im at work right now ... so if anyone has the time and balls to try it,id love to hear what the outcome is or teh potential

and i read that it is possible to start it without a cd.. u need a v9/10 with a dms3 chip in dev 1 mode so it will boot from MC...i have not tryed it tho

I was thinking about this and I don't think it would be that great. It would format your usb device just like a ps2 hdd so inless someone writes a program that can write single files to a ps2 format drive it would be pointless, becuase you would still have to use execftp to get files on it. however you may want to look into exchanging the cdvd.irx with the usb.irx that may work better. Just a thought, maybe wrong. also if you have execftp then I see no reason why anyone would need cd-rs o test this out.

There are heaps of apps that can read PS2 formated HDD. Could probably even use something like WinHIIP?

zero-x notified me that this would not work... renamign the fiel would make the ps2 think that theres a HD but he said it would crash.... if anyone oes feel up to it, then by all means try it.

all i know is that i just wanna be able to use my usb pen drive to transfer .elf files and game saves as well as music for the HD mp3 player.... ive tryed ps2OS and used the usbd.irx file in the config folder on the memory card... i tryed using altima and still nothing, i cant even highlight the usb feature... the usb test app did see the files on my pen drive tho so theres gotta be a reliably way to do this.

WinHIIP will only read and write hdloader partitions it will not let you copy roms apps mp3s et al to the hdd inless 1.6.3 has added this, I havent used it yet. I believe the same is true for hdl dump what pc programs will read or write non hdloader partitions on a ps2 format drive.
