i have a 7200rpm drive in my ps2 right now and ive noticed it can get pretty hot after awhile of game play. i saw that new usb fan and i was wondering if anyone here tried it and was it powerful enough to keep enough air circulating to keep your hdd cool?

its worth a try actually. i had not even thought about usb fans. You of course have to fit it into your ps2 for it to work, but its much better than trying to steal power from elsewhere.

I have actually bought one, don't know how well it really works, but it is very loud compared to the fan on the ps2.

I've got one. I don't really find it that loud though. I find my PS2 doesn't really ramp up the voltage on the fans though (with HDD in use). Nice thing about it is there's a foam filter on the vents to help keep dust out and it blends in well with the PS2 shape. The fan, however is about the size of your thumbnail and I seriously question if it makes much difference at all.

thoes usb fans are waste of time. snake oil. your ps2 is ok running hot. they market the product on peoples fear of a hot ps2. (think of a car engine, when it's hot, it runs more efficiently )

the ps2 requires NO additional cooling. it will tell you if it's too hot anyway by flashing it's red light.

Man Sonic are you ever wrong bro... lol..
I also agree, the USB fans are not worth the money.. I wouldnt even buy one for $5.00.. Maybe for a buck or so but thats it...

Like Sonic said.. Its ok for the HD to run hot... Just make sure that you keep your top case on the PS2 so the fan inside the PS2 can do its job.. Thats the only fan you will ever need...
    Later,

LOL, Im trying to find a site that had a mod for the PS2.. It makes the PS2 liquid cooled just like for some PC's... How ever I cant find the site right now.. But ill post the link when I can find it...
I have been thinking however.. I think it would be cool to put one of those LED fans in the PS2 and make a clear case for it like what some PC towers are... I just think that would look pretty sweet... I just dont know where the best place would be to tap into the power supply on the PS2.. Any ideas?..
