yes my firewire workz yes i think
Winhiip works fine with a usb enclosure on my friends laptop. Since it's impossible for him to put the ps2 hdd inside his laptop this was his only choice. It's not quite as fast as if it were inside the PC on IDE, however it does work just fine.
I picked up one of those USB to IDE cable. Its not an enclosure just a cable with USB on one end and IDE on the other. Comes with a power supply to give the drive power. Works like a charm and quick (USB2)
I've tested two different USB2 enclosures (different chipsets) with both Hld_dum[pb] and Winhiip. Everything works fine, although I noticed that one of them was more sensitive to cable length in Winhiip (got errors until I used a short one).
Keep the number of USB devices connected to your pc to a min. while you are working with your PS2 drive. If there are other drive devices it may cause problems (not a valid PS2 boot record all of a sudden). Make sure your orig. optical disks are in excellent shape and you wont have a problem restoring in the event of corruption. Or you can stick with IDE/ATA. (yes I have lost tons of data using USB adapters)
powaking, where you bought you cable? and how much you paid for it please?
