Ok, here's my situation. I have a v7 ps2, with a Matrix Infinity chip. Not sure which version of HD Loader I'm using, via Memory Card. I play the games I play using the Hard Drive since my laser is completely kaput! With this information in mind, how do I go about updating my HD Loader to the most current version? Remember, I can't use the laser in any way. If someone has a link to something that instructs on this please post it. I've seen things on using a ps1 game to boot stuff, but I can't do that for reasons i've already stated. Any help?!?!?!

    Please...
    and thank you in advance.....

If you don't have any other tools on your memorycard you could propably install a configured/prepared imagefile of execftps with WinHIIP to your HDD and then launch it from HDLoader to gain access to your memorycard over FTP.

But if the HDLoader is too old it propably prevents any FTP-communication.

The other way might be to install configured/prepared imagefile of some Matrix Infinity installation disc with HDLoader in it and then launch that from HDLoader.

Could you go into more detail of how to do the latter of the two suggestions? Or direct me to a site that explains it. Thanks for the reply, btw.

I've never used Matrix Inifinity chips so I have no idea what they require. I just assume they work similarly to DMS and Crystal chips.

If you have a Matrix Infinity, then that means you should be able to boot any boot.elf/BOOT.ELF file directly from your HDD/MC.

PART 1: GETTING THE FILE TO YOUR HDD

To install this file on your HDD, you could use Matrix Infinity's Infinity DEV2 Installer v1.1 software, or you could do it the easy way and just create an ISO file using CDGENPS2 with uLaunchELF on it (renamed to BOOT.ELF), which is way better then execftps. To create the ISO file with CDGENPS2, just drag the files you want to burn inside CDGENPS2 and click on the IMG button inside the program to create the .ISO file (or .Bin/.Cue files) and load it with WinHIIP on your HDD.

To make things easier, I am uploading the ISO file for you which has uLaunchELF v3.79 (latest version) already on it. So just use WinHIIP to install it, and then you can transfer any files you want to your PS2 using a USB device, or via network.

Once you get uLaunchELF running off your HDD, you can use it to copy the BOOT.ELF file of uLaunchELF to your Memory Card in mc0:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF (boot uLaunchELF from Memory Card) or to your HDD in hdd0:/__boot/boot.elf (boot uLaunchELF from HDD).

NOTE: Make sure when transferring uLaunchELF to your HDD or MC that it's in the proper case (MC=UPPERCASE or HDD=lowercase).

PART 2: LAUNCHING THE BOOT.ELF (or boot.elf) FILE WITH YOUR MATRIX INFINITY

Launching files from your Memory Card (DEV1 MODE):

Press/Hold button R1/R2/L2 on joypad 1 while your PS2 is booting. This will launch the following applications according to the button pressed:
    • R1 : "mc0:BOOT/BOOT.ELF"
    • R2 : "mc0:BOOT/BOOT2.ELF"
    • L2 : "mc0:BOOT/BOOT3.ELF"

Launching files from your HDD (DEV2 MODE):

Press/Hold button L1 on joypad 1 while your PS2 is booting. If correctly installed, the following default application will be executed from the HDD when pressing L1:
    • L1 : "hdd0:/__boot/boot.elf"

Let me know if you have any problems...

WARNING: If you have a cloned version of Matrix Infinity (or if you don't know if it's a clone), don't go into your Matrix Infinity Boot Menu and save the settings, it will render your MI chip useless. I just wanted to add this in case you have a cloned MI chip.

However, I do have another question. Being that I have the matrix infinity (not a clone) it's settings have it default to dev1 mode, using the hdloader program as the default on my memory card without having to press anything to initiate the program.

Maybe it's been explained in this thread already, but I want the most updated version of HDLoader to automatically run from the hard drive (dev2) on startup without me having to press any buttons to initiate anything. I know my MI has to be setup with dev2 as the default instead of the current dev1, but other than that I'm clueless. Please help or point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance. I know, I know...NOOB all over the place with my post, huh?

I'm pretty sure the default mode is supposed to be "Auto", which you will find out if you update your firmware.

The answer was in my previous post. So instead of pressing a button to launch the BOOT.ELF or boot.elf file, you just set the appropriate DEV Mode in the Matrix Infinity boot menu, save the settings and restart your PS2. Then it should launch the default application in the following locations below:

    Matrix Infinity Boot Menu Settings
    • DEV1 Mode will automatically launch "mc0:BOOT/BOOT.ELF"
    • DEV2 Mode will automatically launch "hdd0:/__boot/boot.elf"

Is this what you wanted to know?
