I just need a simple answer to this question. Can "HDLv8b" Boot from a PS2 without a ModChip installed? Remember i would like to boot directly from HDD not the MC. This way i can bypass the ps2 dvd laser. If "NO" then thanks for your time. If "YES" Please Explain or link to answer. Thanks to all in advance.

It's not possible without a modchip. You could try independent exploit but it uses both ps2 drive and MC as well.

As long as your Ps2 can load cds you should be able to make it work, and you also need a method by which to "swap" cds on the ps2. If you have a way to swap, do a search for "Independent Exploit" you should be able to find everything you need.

Well, you can have the independence exploit on the MC and HDLoader on HDD. Use uLaunchELF as your BOOT.ELF, and configure it to load HDLoader from the HDD. Actually, thats what i do.

You would still need the MC, but with HDL on HDD, you save a lot of space on MC. The exploit+ulauchelf uses only around 400K from the MC, and its as good as it gets. Alternatively you could use older (thus smaller) LaunchELF versions (or another loader) to save even more MC space.

The only files on my MC are BOOT.ELF (uLauchELF), TITLE.DB (the independence exploit itself) and LAUNCHELF.CNF (config file for uLaunchELF). Everything else (inclusing HDLoader) is on HDD.

Of course, you would still need an original PSX disc (exploit requirement), and a way to transfer a save from PC to MC (Action Replay MAX, Codebreaker, Gameshark, etc). This transfer is only done once, so if you dont have any way to do it, any friend with a modded Ps2 can do it and save the exploit on your MC.

    Hope that helps

I have SCPH-50000 PS2 japan console, PS1 original game, TITLE.DB on MC, boot.efl (uLaunchelf). TITLE.DB is modified to my PS1 game. The file are located in three folder in MC. (I copy using moded PS2 my friend console)

    1. mc0:\BIDATA-SYSTEM\

    TITLE.DB

    2. mc0:\BADATA-SYSTEM\

    BOOT.ELF
    ULAUNCHELF.CNF
    TITLE.DB

    3. mc0:\BOOT\boot.elf (Ulaunch.elf)

When my PS1 Cd game installed, nothing is happen. Just black screen on my tv monitor. Using my frend moded console, run in dev1 mode is ok, no prob.
Could you please tell me what are mistake I have made.
Thanks very much for the guiedence

For japan consoles, all you need is this:

    mc0:\BIDATA-SYSTEM\

    BOOT.ELF
    ULAUNCHELF.CNF
    TITLE.DB

    Nothing else!

    Best regards,

    bootsector

I've created new TITLE.DB using titleman.exe DOS version (very old one), and replace to the both folder. Now It can run Ulauncher at the first try. I suppose the PS2_Exploit_Utility_5.0 that I use before is not good for my console. Yess you are correct, may be I don't have to have two folder. BIDATA-SYSTEM\ is the correct one. But I'am worry to deleled the other one. I'am the most happy person right now. just try to run SNES emu, and its work. Thanks anyway for quick respond.
