  1. #1 Unix tools

I have just bought everything I need to fulfill my LAN-Connected-PS2-dream.
one HDD, HDLoader, Mod-chip, network adapter etc. So Im anxious to get
started. The problem is that im not a windows user, im using FreeBSD.

All PS2 networking/HDLoader guides around assume that the reader is
    using windows.

My Question is. Are there any good place of finding PS2 tools for unix?
That is tools such as CDGenPS2, titleman etc.

ive noticed hdl_dump wich is cross-platform and unix compatible and
I will look into it, but It seems like you have to use other tools too. And
I have only found windows versions of them.

Hope there are some unix-user around that could point me in the right
    direction.

    Thanks in advance.

The source for titleman is in a package called ps2-id-0.1, google it. For CDGenPS2, try wine.

You only tool you really need is titleman, and if you post your PS1 game IDhere i'll make you a title.db

You only need CDGenPS2 if you want to make a homebrew disk or to shrink an iso, but chances are you'll never need to do that.

hmm.. ok .. but.. Im a bit confused.. Why do I need to use hdl_dumb
(and hdl_dumb server on the ps2) to "install" games over network? I mean
why isnt it enough with just transfering execftps to the hdd (with maby the use of hdl_dump by localy connecting the hdd to the pc) and then boot hdloader -> run the ftp-server and then just ftp-transfer game images or whatever to the ps2?. Or does
hdloader have its own structured way of keeping files on the hdd so that you must
use a speciall program (hdl_dumb) to "install" everything? (like mp3:s on IPOD for example.)

Im a newbie on PS2 things so bare with me.. Thanks for responding.

hey viper. SLES_007.18 (Tomb raider 2 =P). if you could make me an title.db.
hdl_dump didnt compile directly in freebsd but it didnt take much tweeking to get
    it working.

and. just give me a short YES or NO answer to the following question. if its a "no"
answer I'll just go and rtfm.. (Just wanna know if im on the right track)

Is this what I should do to get this going now (when I have hdl_dump + title.db):
-> Create a PS2 image of EXECFTPS and install it onto my hdd using hdl_dump
and jack the hdd into my pc.
-> boot EXECFTPS with hdloader, connect to it and transfer hdl_dumb server
to the memorycard along with the title.db. (and rename the svr-bin etc.)
-> boot up with the evil psx-cd and then using hdl_dumb over the LAN.

    tnx.
