Got a shop in Sydney to install my HDConnect kit on my 70006 last week.

    1. Patched HDL7C with /N /V /C and named the ELF file HDL_DEV.ELF
    2. Patched HDL7C with /S /V /C and named the ELF file HDL_DISC.ELF
    3. Patched HDL7C like in 1. but with MDMA0, file named HDL_DEV_MDMA0.ELF
    4. Patched HDL7C like in 2. but with MDMA0, file named HDL_DISC_MDMA0.ELF

Compiled a LaunchELF DVD so i can boot the various ELF above.
Used WinHIIP to format my HDD and install games.

On booting 1. and 2., HDL cannot detect my HD at all.

On booting 3. & 4. HDL asks me to format my HDD everytime. I can format the disc, install a game from the ps2 drive using HDL menu. However the game does not show up in the HDL menu after reading is completed and nothing shows up in the game list.

On booting HDAdvance 3.0 disc or HDLoader disc, my HD can be detected but cannot be formatted.

I suspect this to be a HW(HDConnect Kit)/installation problem since it is weird that MDMA patched HDL7C can format the HDD while UDMA patched ones cannot detect the HDD at all.

Went to the shop today and the staff checked and told me that all solder connections are spot on and that HDconnect only works with modchips that has DEV1 and DEV2 support which my modchip does not do(they do not recognise the chip but it is a green chip in appearance). They told me that the only way to get HDConnect to work on my 70006 is to install a new modchip that has DEV1/2 support like DMS4 or MI because this is a limitation of HDConnect since the HD function calls can only be accessed in DEV1/2 mode.

I am left with a non working HDConnect as i do not want to replace my modchip which has been working well for the past 1 yr without issues.

I am somewhat not convinced because there is a /S option for disc loading which would mean that DEV mode is not needed.
Anyone have ideas on resolving this or do i absolutely need to change to a DMS4 or MI modchip for HDL+HDConnect to work? Thanks.

Managed to resolve my problem. It is a poor soldering like i suspected. So much for the claim that it was spot on.

Opened up my pstwo(never done it before, newbie) and saw that points 4 & 10 were bridged and pt 16 was not soldered properly after refering to the HD Connect installation pics.
Bought a soldering, tried to separate pt4 & 10 and solder pt 16, prayed that whatever i have done would work(did not know what i was doing, never done soldering) and it worked.

For those who are soldering ignoramuses like me, if you are having issues with HD detection on HDConnect etc, do insist that the person who did the HD Connect installation to check all the pts and be present and compare with the installation pics when he does that. You will save a lot of trouble. Just glad that i got my kit working.

Thanks Zero-X for coming up with the /V patch on HDL and for automan who made HD connection possible on the slim ps2s. I am a happy man now

God! I have exactly same problem. Soldering checked several times Can I use 40 pin IDE cable or is 80 pin IDE cable required? I have SCPH-70004 with Ice chip. Any suggestion greatly apprecitaed. Thx.
