I have tried several versions now of hdloader I have all the same problems
I can run it with psx exploit from MC it says it will format it but it doesn't. I also try backing up games it says it does but the game never appears. I have tried everything I can think of. Anyone know a fix to this I can't seem to get anything to work I have changed jumpers, checked connections I'm totally in the dark HELP!

what version ps2 do you have?

go to the browser/system configuration screen (the screen that comes up when there is no disc in the ps2), press TRIANGLE & post the informaiton it provids about the console, cd driver, psx driver, etc..
