If with mac you intend OS X, you can try to compile and run hdldump.
Is there a write-up for clueless command-line newbies to try this? I don't even know how to get started trying.
Edit: And before anybody mentions, I did try searching, this thread is the only one I can find on hdldump and the Mac.
I assume you don't have a rough idea how to compile the program from source. I'm clueless about OS X, but if you have the necessary build tools (in this case i would say the GCC compiler and the "make" command), it should be quite easy to do.
So, if you have the build tools, launch you terminal, cd in a directory where you have write permission (you home dir should be ok): open the tarball with something like "tar jxvf hdl_dumx-0.8.3-20051208-src.tar.bz2", cd on the newly created dir ("cd dhl_dump"), run the make command ("make").
Now, if there are no errors, on the same dir you should have a binary called "hdl_dump". Add it to your command path (on Debian i should copy it in "/usr/local/bin") or lauch it from the dir you compiled it ("./hdl_dump").
When running without arguments, hdl_dump will show a brief help, this is only a reminder of the commands, running dhl_dump with a command without argument will show more help.
On the hdldump page you'll find a quite useful list of examples (http://hdldump.psx-scene.com/howto.html ).
Just use Virtual PC and then use HDLdumb
