    It will probably be fine
Only a few people are getting formatting requsts, but I wouldn't say it was any more then those who are getting format requests every time they boot it in the same console. If it asks for a format, just power down and remove the drive

I have been able to use two seperate maxtor drives in 3 different ps2's with no problem (v5,v9,v10)

ok i done this this week here is the thing u can take ur hd out and put it in another ps2 BUT don't try to install games or it will delete everything on ur hd and will keep coming up say u need to reformat but when u put it back in the 1st ps2 were u installed ur games at it will work again

So yes u can put it in another ps2 but only to play the games that r on the HD just don't try to install a game
Act right or get smacked with the right

    just a note:

HDLoader, in its 'HDLoader Settings' partition has a file called machineid i believe. So using another version ps2 may mess something up in the settings.

i have used my hd across 4 different ps2's, installing games on all 4 without any issues at all, 2 being v4, 1 being a v7, and mine which is a v9. the only message i get is the license screen. no format option. no messed up settings. nothing at all.

i didnt say it was true, i said it may. i even italicized it in my post.

sephy1024, two posts above my stated that they used it in multipul versions of ps2. i was merely suggesting that the file is there for some purpose. maybe someone can transfer it to MC, then use ftp to get it onto PC and see whats in the file.
