SwapMagic on HDL question?

Swap Magic on HDL...
i read awhile ago how it was possible to play cd-rips becuase u could run hdl and run an altered swap magic(large dummy file) and so u could do a game that was like 900mb...
My question is ... could u do this with swap3.3 dvd? meanin no need for large TOC dvd...
and also with this technique do u even need to swap? couldnt u put ur backup in at the hdl screen then load swapmagic and then jsut run it? cuz if it changes teh TOC when swapmagic loads it wont no u have a backup in anymore either??
