I have the image file of the Sony hd tools (version 1.10) on my pc. If I could modify the atad.irx file would it be able to recognize my unofficial hard drive and install the software required to view it in the browser?

Also, if this is possible could I do this with the image installed on the hd through a dump program or would I absolutely need the burned cd? (Guessing no to the hd image but worth a shot)

How would you modify the file. As far as i know, the tools look for the firmware of the drive. If the firmware mismatches, i dont think it will go anywhere.

Yea thats where I got it from, I will try it later tonight and come back with the details.

One q:Could I just use isobuster to extract everything, modify the atad.irx and just make an iso of that?

EDIT: Can't locate any atad file but there are three large files

    FILES.PAK
    INSTAL.PAK
    PS290.VOB

Could there be anything that I can use in these files or edit another file to make it work?

Way back when at BS2ownz, there was a ppf patch made to patch the image of the ffxi beta utility disc, which would allow it to install onto 3rd party hdds, I for one gave it a try ... installs great, all utilities work great (if u can get to them) ... but ... you can't boot to this "new" browser or anything of the sort b/c the firmware is obviously not there, as of now, a dms3 is the only way of achieving these results without an official drive ... would be nice if someone DID find a way to direct copy the official firmware tho ... We can only dream ...

If you have a DMS3 just enable ATAD Auto patching through the chip, and it will format your drive and work in the browser as if you had the Official Sony HDD, if you turn off ATAD auto patching though, it won't show up in the browser, but will still work fine with HDLoader etc. It's nice to be able to copy my save games to a folder using the browser, and of course the Keyboard and Mouse options.

Also just a heads up, people have modified the ATAD.IRX file and still had no luck getting it to format their HDD. Perhaps they did it wrong though.

Unless someone corrects me, I think the Sony HDD-utilitydisc only work with US-machines. Tried it with two different PAL-machines and didn't work. After the PS2 logo just blank screen.

I read somewhere that the atad.irx is packed inside another file, so there is no way of patching it (apart from DMS3 of course).
