I can play games from hdd fine. When I try to upload new games or manage partitons I am getting the following errors.

    1. Winhiip -- Partition past 128GB found.
    2. PS2PFS Explorer -- Drive size 633,288 GB, Unable to mount Drive
    3. Hdl_Dumb -- connection refused (FTP), Drive not dectected (Local)

So, affectivley, I can not access my Hard Drive unless it is connected to my PS2. Somewhere something went wacky, what can I do to fix this. I figured just format the drive, but to my knowledge, I can't do that without using one of the above 3 programs.

You can partition your harddrive using any partitioning software (including using disk management in windows) then try formating it for HDL with Winhiip.

You can try the 48bit HDLoader option in the WinHIIP options window. I guess that this will add support for partitions larger than 128GB.

From the WinHIIP help file "If the drive is being used with any version of HDLoader and the last sector used is less than the 28bit lba limit, the mode will be set to 28bit lba. So In this instance, if you are using a 48bit patched HDLoader, you would change the option here after selecting the drive but before adding more images"

WinHIIP also has a "scan/repair PS2 drive" and a "repair PS2 Drive structure" option. Click on the utilities button for those.

If this doesn't work you can format the drive using the DMS format tool.

I tried to use partition magic, but it wouldnt dectect the drive properly either. I ended up creating a partion on the false 600GB drive and rebooting. Then partion magic detected the error and fixed it. Then I was able to format the drive in winhiip, unfortunatley losing all 100GB of games I had But it is working again....

Double Helix, i imagine you're trying to add videos (****) to your hard drive and still be able to play & manage games with Winhiip...

The best way to do this is to first format the drive completely with the newest winhiip (1.7.5) with 48lba enabled.

Then switch to PFS explorer and create whichever partitions you want named +VIDEO or something like that. Do not create partitions larger than 1.5gb! If you need more than 1.5gb of space, just create multiple partitions.

You can now either install movies with PFS explorer or switch back to Winhiip and re-install whichever games you like. I've found that creating the partition with PFS explorer and not Winhiip is much more stable.

Well, I think everyone knows what happens when you make an assumption. It was an error in PS2PFS that caused this whole problem. I was attempting to use winhiip to correct the errors on the drive. I typically use HDL_dumb as it is just as fast as winhiip is, without the bother of taking my pc's case off. And as far as the "videos (****)" goes it was an episode of ATHF I was working with.

Seems like a waste to be doing a 600gig drive in a PS2 for video files. Can't the media apps for PS2 stream via the network yet or am I just spoiled by my Xbox?

Maybe so, but that's up to each user. Some people don't want to rely on having a PC nearby constantly, with all the media files. It might not be practical to bring that entire PC system over when visiting friends with the PS2, for example.

Sure they can. Both SMS and the 'reality player' can do this (differently implemented btw).

    Best regards: dlanor

    You guys are missing something.

I have a 120GB drive. There must have been in error in the partition table, making programs think that the drive was 600gb

Also, the streaming thing is great. However, I am more in search of portablitity. I take my hard drive to a friends house almost every weekend. So having files on my network isn't helpfull.

Double helix, did you even attempt what i suggested on the last post or just assume i didn't know what i was talkin' about cuz i made a joke.

And try getting a "firewire/usb2.0 hard drive enclosure", it's what i use, gets about 23mbps speeds which isn't much worse than the 32mbps that i get from a direct ide connection. If you shop around (try slickdeals.net) you can probably pick one up for about 10 bucks.
