So, there is no way to make a Maxtor into an official Sony drive?

Was arguing with a guy on SOCOM 2 last night a little bit. He says that winHIIp will format a maxtor drive so that you can put it in a non modded ps2 and it will be a clone of the Sony drive and work with Socom 2 for the new map. I say BS. Is anybody working on a way to do it? There must be a way to do it. It is just the formatting/file system of the sony drive that makes it special, right?

You can do it using Dark Killers? atad prgm or something like that. He posted it. Just do a search on his posts.

Unfortunately, I dont think that will work for what I was describing, because of the DNAS check. This patch would require using a burned copy of the game.

So I am correct in saying that there is no way to turn a Maxtor drive into a Sony, right?

I think hes saying can he put the map for Socom II on his upgraded HDD even though its not a sony HDD. If it downt work you could always just copy the Socom II HDD info and put it on a mem card and transfer it. Its only 256kb.

you need *** chip or similar, it uses ATAD Patching, this patches a non $ony HDD into an official one

Yep, I have a Matrix Infinity chip. That isn't what I want. I want the HDD to be recognized with the mod off so I can play the new "After Hours" map online with my clanmates.

There is a way, but I haven't heard of anyone doing it yet. Since what makes Sony's HDD work with the games is their custom firmware, replacing the firmware of your hard drive with one that is functionally the same as Sony's would do the trick. Of course, such a firmware would have to be made for your specific hard drive model first, and then a way to install it over the default firmware would have to be used.

That said, it's definitely possible, but who's going to bother doing it for many models of hard drives with how little HDD support there is in non-Japanese games?

Yeah, thats what I was thinking. Something like an Fdisk that will partition and format with Sony's info/filesystem.

OK... so the more or less you are trying to do is bypass the DNAS.... because you want to play online.... because patching the ATAD.IRX file allows you to play the maps off of your non-official HDD. Just because (had to throw in a third one).

no, not trying to bypass the DNAS. All I was wondering was if it was possible to turn a maxtor hdd into an official Sony drive, that would be useable on an unmodified PS2.

If we could bypass DNAS there would be no issues, but then again I wouldn't play SOCOM anymore either because of the cheaters!
