I got a small hd (like 3 gb or so) in my ps2 and i know that i need
a hd that is about 40-137 gb large.

So when i start up freeloader from my memstick (:mass using elf launcher)
it tels me that the hd needs to be formated.
then it sess "formating is in progress... please wait" but it newer gets done.
    have waited a looong time...
Is this because the disk is too small?
When starting my ps2 the hd spins up nicely.
If thats the only problem im going to get a larger one.

I also tried HDloader that came with BM Mega Pack V 2.2.
This one does start without asking to format hdd.
But when trying to transfer game to hd from cd it stopes at "initalizing installation, please wait"
So it looks like everytime the ps2 trying to run the hdd it will stop.

use a larger harddrive. Even on a 10 gb that I tried the hdloader system partitions took up about 3-4gb.

The smallest HDD I've heard of working properly is 4GB or 5GB, anything up seems okay though for the most part. Lots of people used old Quantum Fireball 10GB HDD's early on from what I remember.

    Agreed

I was using a 10gb hdd and could only get 2 games on

The hdloader takes up a ridiculous amount of space <_<

format the hd with winhiip V.1.6.5 so you can choose the size of the partitions.
I have a small hd too, but I made every hdloader partition 128mb and it works fine. A little bit of game shrinking and - et voila - size for a few games more!
