I'm using version 1.6.4, and i get 10-12MB.So did my friend on his old PC he got the same speed(Dont know which version he had.)Anyways on his new PC he has V1.6.5, and it only goes 1.0-1.2Mb.His cable is down so he cant download the older version incase that would fix it.Would going back to V1.6.4 make it go faster? Thanks

Did your friend's setup have the hard drives on the same ribbon cable? If so, transfer speeds will be greatly affected. Were yours on different cables? Also, using 80 wire cables help, versus older 40 wire (<=ATA-33). I believe my transfer rates average only 27-30MB/s, using the newest version.

i had this problem, turns out it was in the bios setting.
run "compmgmt.msc" and go to device manager. go to ide ata/atapi controller and depeding on the system, pick which ide channel the hard drive is hooked up to. go to advanced settings and see what the current transfer mode is for the ps2hd. if it says anything other than ultra dma mode4 then that's the problem.
