Simple Hdd question –
09-28-2004,03:42 PM
I want to add a non official Hdd to my PS2. Not for use with an Hdd loader but, just as if were the official one. I was wanting to do this to get the upcoming SOCOM II maps w/o buying the $99 FFXI pack. My question is, would a different Hdd work for this purpose?

wow dog2525, very good answer...
anyway, a non-sony hdd for the purposes you want in your ps2 will not work. Chips have to be turned off in online mode, and therefore your hdd will not even be recognized. Even if you could go online with the dms3 chip on, and atad patching on, it wont let you because socom has patches that will be able to see your non-sony hdd.

new firmware for the hdd is not possible. we cant even get the original yet.
Also, like I said, along with downloadable maps (and other items for other games), they also have mandatory patches for the games which will check for these things. Think of it like this:
Backups, non-sony hdds, modchips, and etc are all viruses. And DNAS is the anti-virus tool that automatically updates to fix the new problems. (In other words, online exploits are possible, but also fixable since updates can be downloaded and applied even if you dont want them to.)
