Finally finished it up. Inside and all, works flawlessly! Rebooted multiple times and it recognizes EVERY time!

All-in-all, takes about 45 minutes to do if you have a dremel.

    Some notes:

I did not put the metal shielding back on the inside...no real point IMO.

I also used electrical tape to insulate instead of cardboard.

    Parts:
SATA Drive to IDE Converter, Marvell 88SA8040, IDE-SATA01

The Network adapter mod by kaBUMz Download PS2BBA-SCPH10281+10350-DELOCK (English).zip from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way

    Pics:

    Pretty good IMO

Well originally I was thinking $50 with network adapter but I think I won't be able to do that. I ran out of my cheap stock of NA's now I can't get them cheap anymore

But if you supply the network adapter and the sata adapter I'll do it for $25.

Hello, I know this is an old thread but my PS2 DVD drive died and I'm looking to hook up a 500GB HDD, but big IDE drives are imposible to find in my country only SATA, even on eBay IDE drives are rare and expensive.

    So my question is:

LAN is still working with this mod? because i want to load games through network and also load isos with OPL with SAMBA share.

Can you still make this mod for me if I send you the network adapter? and how much you will charge?

    First you say....

...and I'm looking to hook up a 500GB HDD...
    Then you say....

LAN is still working with this mod? because i want to load games through network and also load isos with OPL with SAMBA share
So you will both (Internal-HDD AND SMB)??

If you want to play over LAN (SMB) you donīt need to send him your adapter to modify it....

Yes I need both because SMB with OPL is not 100% compatible, there is a lot of games that I cannot play because my drive died and USB/SMB is not compatible, also 500GB is not enough space for my needs.

worth mention that I need a functional network adapter to load isos with HDL_dump-hdld_svr and avoid to unhook HDD everytime i need to load an iso.

Just bought a cheap ide to sata adapter for hard drives. And as luck had it, it features a Marvell chip!
i also made a short ide extension cable to be able to fit the adapter inside the hdd bay together with a WD Scorpio WD3200BEVT (320GB, SATA 2.5").
firing the PS2 up, i can hear the drive spinning but no luck HDL and ulaunchelf's hdd manager both fail to detect the drive. i figured the adapter must be set to master, but it already was.
Now i don't know whether it is the adapter or it is the drive. Maybe i can get my hands on another drive and try again.
Or maybe someone of you got another idea?
I also confirmed every part is working on itself. the hard drive works in my laptop the adapter+drive will work in my old G4 Powermac (my only machine that still has IDE) and the NA will operate with a WD IDE HD just fine but it's a bit too small for me with just 80GB.

€: Ok, just tried with the drive from my old laptop, a Samsung SATA 2.5" with 160GB and it works Seems like the PS2 is still picky about drives even when using a conerter

500 GB? Wow. Each game is only like 3 GB at the most.
