Please take note that you will not be able to fit a 3.5" SATA HDD plus the adapter into the fat PS2 (it exceeded the total length of the HDD slot).
Any 2.5" SATA HDD will do nicely (Velociraptor and SSD also works), you might want to add something on top of the HDD to prevent the HDD from vibrating due to the available empty space.

I'll strongly recommend against the use of a Velociraptor (Or any 10000 RPM disk) drive (The heat generated is really great, the ventilation in the PS2's disk drive bay isn't good, and 10000 RPM disks generally don't last as long as any slower disks).

The PS2's DVD drive isn't very fast, so you don't need a really fast disk to even beat it (5400 RPM disks will do, but they're quickly disappearing from this world).

SSDs are OK, but they're expensive.

OT: That adaptor looks nice. I wish that I can get one.... but I can't because I don't own a credit card yet.

Nice find there. I believe this is the official website for the device. I've been looking for something as a standby as my own 3.5 IDE HDD warranty has since expired. Also one really can't find too many decent IDE drives these days.

I don't really like laptop drives though from what I've seen and heard so far. Apparently many of the manufacturers have APM settings that are quite extreme. I saw that my very own Samsung laptop drive would park the head after an access in anywhere from 5 to 30 seconds. One could easy increase the Load_Cycle_Count immensely by simply running a hdd temperature monitor.

Luckily this drive is in a USB enclosure where the hard drive's APM can be set to 0xFE using hdparm under Linux. At least the drive doesn't repeatedly park the head anymore.

    Edit:
Hum, apparently this may even be better. It's made by the same company only it allows one to place their 2.5" SATA drive in an adapted enclosure. Supposedly it spaces the IDE and power connectors much like the sata-tr150vh. The great thing though is if this works then vibrations wouldn't be as much of a problem as the small laptop drive will at least be partially encased. Judging by the dimensions of the product, this indicates to me that it should easily fit within the PS2 drive bay.

Too bad I haven't found any reputable seller selling any of these products outside of Japan. I can think of all sorts of other uses for these products.

Spud, here's a different one that I found months ago, but I haven't had a chance to test it due to a lack of funds.

It's 35 USD, so it's somewhere between the two. I put the word out back when I found it, but nobody has reported any testing on it yet.

From that picture I can see that there are 5 pairs of jumper pins between the data and power connectors (like Western Digital IDE HDDs), it is very unlikely to fit correctly into the network adapter.
Seagate IDE HDDs only have 4 pairs of jumper pins in between.

they have 2 distributors here in AUS but neither stock that adaptor or any others... shipping would make it way too expensive even when the aussie dollar is damn near 1 for 1 with the USD.... besides clement might be right with the spacing issue and i am not wasting money to find out...lol
