Resizing Help... –
01-14-2005,10:22 AM
Hey guys, did a search on the forums for resizing, but didnt come up with much. Just wanted to know if there is a tutorial anywhere, on how to resize games, I just realized now that we can do this.
I do have one question however, does the game lose anything when being resized? Audio, movies? Is it a form of ripping the game to be smaller?
Thanks in advanced folks.

Copy all the game files to your hard drive
then look for any dummy files and replace them with blanks if there are any. open the file with a hex editor to tell if its a dummy file, usually maked dummy.dat
then open isobuster and open the drive with the dvd then right click on the iso name and save the tree info LBA, relative path and save the txt file to where the game files are stored.
open CDGenPS2 and hit advanced > import tree info from iosbuster file
then select LBA (No fix) and hit ok
all the game files will be in the project in the right order.
like the IMG button and save it as an ISO file then after the image is made send it to the hd using winhiip or hdl_dump
here is a list of some game i have shrunk
DBZ Budokai 2 (4GB -> 750MB)
DBZ Budokai 3 (4GB -> 1GB)
Blood Omen 2 (4GB -> 2GB)
Devil May Cry (4GB -> 2GB)
Star Wars Battle Front (4GB -> 2GB)
to find out how much you can shrink the game open it in windows explorer, select all the files then hit properties it will show you the size of the game files rather than the size of the disc

you can resample video and audio it just requires lots of work. most times when ppl resize they just take out dummy data but it is possible to resample stuff.

You got Devil May Cry (USA) to work? I can get it to shrink like other games but it won't run off the HD. What's the trick? I tried doing it about 10 different ways but the game won't work just goes to a black screen. Only works if this game is completely copied over.
BTW: I also have problems getting even my shrank Devil May Cry demo (640Mb) that comes with Resident Evil: Code Veronica X to work. However; I did get Devil May Cry 2 both disks shrank and they work fine. (4 Gb -> 2 Gb) each.
I can only guess you have to do something special to get a shrinked Devil May Cry trial or full version to work.

ok i think i see the problem with DMC there are file in the same folder that are not in the same area of the disc like this:
1477491 , \DATA\MOVIE\S0101_3.PSS
2208404 , \DATA\MOVIE\DEMO0.PSS
and when CDGenPS2 adds them it does not take into account of exatly where they should be so the data is not in the right spot.
i think this could be fixed if you drag every file into the project yourself but there are 344 files for DMC so that would take a LONG time and i dont feel like sitting there putting all those files in the right order.
if you really want to try it go ahead it should work (dont blame me if it does not)
