  1. #1 Reset button does nothing with HDL

    Anybody heard of this problem?

When playing a game off the HDD, tapping the reset button does nothing, the green led just flashes. I've tried holding down the button, double-tapping, single tapping, nothing works. I end up every time having to use the switch at the back which is not good for the HDD.

I've got a PAL V5 with DMS3+ (firmware 2.3) using HDloader or HDadvance off the mem card. I used to have a Maxtor 40Gb and the problem was only when I played Tiger Woods 2005. But now I have a Maxtor 80Gb and the problem is with all my games, GTA-Vice City, Onimusha 3, LOK defiance, etc..........

Any help or suggestions would be most welcome thanks.

hmm, not sure... i would suggest putting the 40gig back in and see if it still does it with all games to help rule out your problems...

When the HDD modules are loaded, the RESET button is effectively disabled. This is good because it forces you to put it in Standby mode first (pressing and holding RESET until it turns RED) which allows the HDD to spin down properly.

If you take the HDD out, it will work fine on normal games.

I heard double tapping COULD lead to problems eventually...so I just hold it down to give it proper time to shut down. One thing I noticed, with an HDD in you cant have the tray out and shut the power off, it acts like you arent hitting the power button at all. No one should be doing that anyway I suppose heh.

Thanks for the help folks, I figured it out eventually. Just to re-state my original problem: "pressing the reset\standby button while playing off the HDD would have no effect"
I enabled ATAD Auto-Patching in the config and now it goes into standby perfectly from all my games.

This sort of thing is also very dependent on mod-chip variations. With my Ripper 2 Gold (for example) a double tap is normally used for booting PS1 disks. But there is no problem with HDL anyway, as a single tap is enough to reach standby mode from games launched by HDL. With this chip that has nothing to do with ATAD patching, as that isn't available.

    Best regards: dlanor

double tap isn't too wise if you wish to maintain the long term life of your drive. it is proper to let the hdd spin down fully before letting it spin up again, otherwise you may risk damadging the motor that spins the platters.

Well with my experience most games with just a single tap (using hdd of course) the ps2 goes straight to standby but with some games reset does nothing just like whats happeneing to do, it think its some sort of conflict with certain games and drivers or soemthign.
