Quick HDD question...

I have not touched my PS2 in months because I got a modded Xbox and slapped a 120GB seagate in it. My PS2 laser was on its way out so I never bothered messing with it. Now I see I can play games off the HDD on my PS2 like the Xbox so with GTA San Andreas and MGS3 and Killzone out now I really wanna get my PS2 up and running again. I had another 120GB Seagate laying around the house unused and tried to get things setup tonight, but HD Loader says that it cant detect my HDD. I tried this with my Seagate 120, an ooooold Maxtor 10GB I had laying around, and the original 40GB Maxtor from my modded TiVo :) but no luck :(.

I have another (unmodded) PS2 here and tried to put the HDD (all 3) in it and they never power up at all, or even make an attempt. Should the HDD boot up immediately when I turn on the console or is it an on-demand thing? I know the network portion of my network adapter is working, so I am thinking that the HDD portion has gone (or maybe always has been) bad. Unfortunately I dont know anyone else with a PS2 network adapter that I can test with. Thanks for any help troubleshooting this!

hdd will turn on right away at the start. make sure you have the right jumper settings. master or cable select should be the 2 that will work on hdl

Thanks. I have the jumper settings correct, so it sounds like a bad network adapter then. Will verify today.

Damn, picked up a new network adapter this morning and still no-go. Anyone have some suggestions? The drives do not even spin-up. Tried on two different PS2's now with two diff network adapters and 3 drives. :(

Um do you have HDLoader or HD Advance? You made no mention of it

HDLoader, I figured this didn't matter since the disk doesn't even spin up.

My PS2 is a v9 or 10 with ***3.

u need hdloader...

Get HDLoader or Advance. I bet all these drives will work.

I've got HDLoader. Had it since last night, I get a screen that says...

"HDLoader could not detect a hard disk drive connected to your PS2. Please ensure that you have connected a hard disk drive according to the instructions found in the manual and on the HDLoader website."

So, should my drive spin up when I power on the PS2 or does HDLoader spin up the drive? If the drive is not powering on then no wonder HDLoader cant find it. What has me worried is that I've tried with several HDD's, 2 PS2's, and 2 Network adapters.

EDIT: My jumper settings are correct, btw.
