Question about network
Hey, new here but have been following the threads for a while in my own attempts at ps2 greatness :]
So about a month ago I got a used fat ps2 from gamestop and somehow i just decided to ask if maybe they could look through the fat ps2s they had left to see if any had a network adapter on them since they dont have any for sale anywhere it seems.
Such luck, one of them had it attached to it still, $60 for a fat ps2 in working condition with a network adapter on it. :] Anyway I put a 500gb seagate barracuda in there, installed FMCB 1.8b noobie package I believe. This being that I put the .ELF for uLe 4.38 in mc0:\0\BADATASYSTEM\ I think as just BOOT.ELF, but when I choose uLaunchELF from the FMCB menu it loads 4.30 even though I can pick the BOOT.ELF from that browser to load 4.38, though I'm not sure if that conflicts by possibly using the same .cnf?
Maybe I can just re-route the link in the browser through FMCB configurator...
This leads to the question about network... in uLe 4.30 or 4.38 I have experienced this problem as well as with SMS in some cases.
Using HOSTS, I have tried radhostclient and ps2client by cmd as well as with the loaders and sometimes it detected the ps2 as a server while I had the HOST folder open.
I am pretty sure I have anything that could put a load on my CPU turned off, and the modem is disconnected from my router. Yesterday I tried to transfer 3 movie-length videos, and about 5 episodes of this 20 minute show, so I think the files were around 7-800mb, then 200mb for the shows. I did this while I went to sleep(granted it was only for 6 hours), figuring it's got to finish by the time I wake up. I didn't expect anything since it's basically my first try, but apparently one movie-length video file finished, and the second one was about 75% finished sending.
I'm not sure how much the speed must have fluctuated while I was sleeping but this made me try different versions of all these clients, and the best result I could seem to get was with ps2client. I can connect, and see the folders shared through HOSTS, but there is a problem with copy/pasting. Sometimes it just says paste failed and I just keep retrying the paste until the transfer window shows up. Once I get to this point, it says Unknown for about a minute and either it will say a low speed like 40-200KB/s or go up to 12,000KB/S for maybe 10 minutes and freeze completely.
At this point I have to restart the PS2 and hope it doesn't freeze in uLe while trying to navigate HOSTS after the connection is made with ps2client or radhost, they both seem capable of making a connection occasionally but the freezing is universal. I would stream from network but I am mostly trying to put videos on the HDD since I am often out so I can watch my movies without carrying well, 128gb worth of dvds with cases since thats the size of at least the current video partition.
In any case, it seems I can squeeze about one movie in before it croaks at its best performance... but the freezing is definitely not temporary, I left it for about an hour just to see. I was just wondering if there's a way to keep the transfer speed a consistent 12000KB/s like it fluctuated to? When it would reach that speed, the time would count down so fast, but then stop and climb back up until it decided to speed up again. So it would seem if possible to sustain the connection it could blast out files really fast or at least really fast to me. :]
The freezing is also a big thing, is that normal? I've read on some types of freezing issues but nothing seemed to really help me here whether its a change of version on either side(pc/ps2). I'll deal with it if there isn't any way to remedy it as being able to get movies on my ps2 at all makes having my movies way more convenient to mobilize. :]
SMS also had an issue with freezing in network mode, I got it to recognize HDD and play videos off that just fine. I read something about SMB shares for SMS making it much easier so I could look into that a little later I suppose. The main issue though was with the freezing and transfer speeds with HOSTS in uLe 4.30 and 4.38 because it happened in both versions.
Any help appreciated and I'll provide any other information you might need, thanks.
