Hi guys, long time no see!
I've been rather busy in college, not as much time to get on. Also, got an XBox again Primenal and have been heavy into figuring out stuff on it. However, one last project on my PS2 has remained unfinished, and I am committed to, at least one of these days, getting a way to do this. I especially want to now since I want to host a website through my university's internet, and the only way to hide the server software is through PS2Linux, after all, who would suspect a lil PS2 capable of web serving?

Anyways, the project is this: Installing Linux and Gaming Partitions on the same HDD. I have the US Linux Release 1 and an official PS2 HDD. With mrbrown's help, I have tried many ways; using the utility disc with the Linux discs, tried the JAP Utility Disc, tried installing the xRhino Linux kernel and using ps2fs to add the partitions (failed, and didn't know how to boot the kernel over NFS), and all my attempts have failed.
Now I see that HDLoader has been released, and it uses the gaming partitions to install. Can this be used to install Linux and the gaming partitions together? I'm not even concerned about getting HDLoader itself to work correctly, as long as Linux boots and games can install to the gaming partitions, although HDLoader working would be a plus too.

So is this possible? Please let me know, and as soon as I get my PS2 back from loy's shop, I'm going to start work on it. Thanks everyone, to a scene site that I will always call home.

Try it. IIRC Linux should be the first, but as I think now, that is not so important.

Well.. you may need a modchip to boot pukklink and if you have smap problems in linux, you need to figure out a way to get the BlackRhino distro on your machine.

    ANYWAY...

I used the Sony HD Utility to format the drive, then I used Aussiewan's (h**p://www.geocities.com/aussiewan/howtops2linux.htm) instructions here and made an 8 gig PS2 Linux partition and a 1 gig swap.

I used his method to get the blackrhino base image. Everything was going well.. except that I ran into the SMAP problem.

I have not continued past this point because of school but this is how I intend to proceed:

I used the instructions here to download the BlackRhino distro to my HD. I plan to burn this to a DVD-R (hence the need for a modchip)

Once Blackrhino Linux is installed next to a games partition, then I will figure out the SMAP problems
