It doesn't work that way. You can't just 'see' any PS2 storage devices as if they were normal Windows shares in your network. And even if you could, it would not be possible to install HDL games that way, as these games don't use any normal filesystem. Each game is stored as a separate custom partition.
You need to start a special server on the PS2, which was designed to handle such game installation, and that is the "HDLD_SVR.ELF" server from the HDL_Dump package. At the pc end you can then run HDL_Dump.exe, usually through some nicer 'front-end' program, to handle the installation over the network. The current HDL_Dump releases include a simple front-end named "HDL_Dumb", which will do the job (despite its name
).
Just make sure that all HDL_Dump components, (both on the PC and on the PS2 end) are from the same release, as different transfer protocols have been used in different versions. So mixing components from different releases might not work well (sometimes not at all).
WinHIIP is not capable of installation over network, so if you want to use it you'll have to take the PS2 HDD out of the console.

First thing connect the PS2 to a router/switch with a patch cable or to a PC with a cross cable before launching the hdld_svr.elf program. Now find a way to launch the hdld_svr.elf on the PS2. Withouth modifying the config file it will use the static 192.168.0.10 IP address as default (and 255.255.255.0 as netmask, IIRC). Now on the PC side, check that the IP address is in the same subclass, and if you aren't comfortable enough to use the hdl_dump.exe from the command line, find a frontend...
P.S. i've never used a crossover cable so YMMV

ToT i have no idea what u mean with launching hdld_svr.elf where can i get that from? and where does the ps2 pop in on the pc to change the ip address?
and this hdl_dump.exe where can i get that and is it you just use it on the pc double click it ?
Whats a patch cable? can you still do it with crossover cable? anyone ?
sorry can someone tell me how to do it using basic terms im not that smart using a pc but im good enough to change ip address on pc and i did it on xbox using flash fxp, but this ps2 is baffling me how to view the harddrive from the console and then add games to it via copying from the pc to ps2. my ps2 can boot from memory card but ive no idea how to add data to the memory card to do it. is anyone up for the challenge to explain in terms i can understand?
thanks for trying though und0

You'll find hdl_dump/hdld_svr sources and executables hosted here and it's linked in the home page, anyway http://hdldump.psx-scene.com/. Heck, it's the first hit when you search "hdl_dump" with google...
A "patch cable" is a plain cat 5 network cable, again google knows it.
Find a way to run unsigned code in your PS2 using whatever method you want, modchip, swapmagic, cogswap, mc exploit. After that, i suggest to run uLaunchELF (you'll find in this forum too)...
You'll find dozens of tutorials net or here, like this one:
http://www.mikestyle.com/tutorials/exploit.htm
or the brief but complete howto
http://hdldump.psx-scene.com/howto.h...anced_examples

if you plug it to the computer use crossover, if you plug it to a router use straight through (patch, plain cable)...

You usually need cross cables when connecting two hosts directly, i.e. without the help of a hub/switch/router, but "modern" net hardware should have autosensing so you can use both, plain and cross...
About the signed code, without a modchip, PS2 can only runs code "signed" by Sony (well, not considering other copy protection methods, the check is done at boot time on the support media, i.e. the code isn't cryptographically signed), so this isn't a big concern for you as you can run what you want.
P.S. the guide explains how to run code without a modchip, so you can skip that part or you can probably found better guides out there or in this same forum...
