proper way of backing up saves to the HD

im using ps2menu-k 0.31 and ive backed up my saves for gta:vc. this is the process i used:

-created a folder on pfs0 called saves
-created another folder called gta vice city
- copied all the files in the gtavc saved folder from the mc into the folder i created, but left the icon.sys file in the folder on the mc so i can go back to that folder and know what it is.

but here is my problem, when i restarted my ps2, the folder on the mc for vice city is gone.

is there a way to copy whole folders and the contents within in them? as well isthere a better way of backing up saves to the hd?

The Better Way is using EXECFTP and copying the whole directory (with the cryptic numbers) in a directory called like the game.

I.E. use EXECFTP to copy the DIR /mc/0/3455555-3434 to /pfs/0/saves/GTA3/3455555-3434. (You only need to route them over your PC) Then you can delete the Dir on your MemCard and you are able to identify the one on your HD.

yea im just having some problems with execftp right now, which is being discussed in another thread.

but what id like to do is find an easier way to backup the saves to my hd using just the ps2, lets say i bring my ps2 to a friends house or something and want to backup/load saved games

Have you tried PS2os to transfer saves to your HD?

i have not, ill give it a try once i get a hold of my buddys modded ps2

its sooooo easy with just ps2menu-k

1.Go to view your MC, you'll see all the folders for your games there

2.Highlight which save you want to back-up

3.Hit the start button, go down to MC Backup and hit the x button. That will save that particular save to the partition that ps2menu created for saves

4.To reinstall a save to your MC, hit the R1 button to bring up the browse menu

5.Go to "Saves", hit the X button

6.Select which save you want, and hit the x button. It will automatically send that save back to the MC. Voila!
