Problems installing games from CD / CD-R

I'm having this problem and can't figure out what's wrong.

I'm trying to install some games that are in CD-ROM and CD-R media. They work fine from the discs, but the problem starts when i try to install them.

I put the CD, boot HD Loader, select Install. It checks the discs, with no problems. Then it prompts the keyboard screen, so i can set the name. When i click finish the Installing in Progress appears, but instantly a screen saying FATAL ERROR also appears. When i click ok it goes back to the game list.

I'm using HD Loader 0.7c. Any ideas of what's wrong?

what games are u trying to install? some games aren't compatible with hdd. for instance if u try to install half-life like that it will give u the same thing. check out http://list.ps2hd.com/ for compatibility listings.

Sega Rally 1995 - Compatible
Gradius V - Compatible
Street Fighter EX3 - Compatible
Black (Demo) - Compatible
Raiden III - Compatible

All games are compatible, according to list.ps2hd.com

Any ideas?

Are your games really scratched up or have fingerprints all over them by any chance or do u have suffient space on yur hdd?

Not a single scratch. I have 50+ GB free of space.

This only happens with CDs and CD-Rs. On another board, people told me that HD Loader "don't like" CD's for some weird reason. A friend even said he only managed to transfer his original Ridge Racer V through Winhiip, because he had the same problem trying to transfer from the PS2 drive.

I know i can use Winhiip (i don't want to connect/disconnect/connect/... all the time), and through network (my computer is way far from the PS2). I wonder if everybody has this problem with CDs and CD-Rs

I though that hdloader can't install cd-r media only original discs.

I know you can install backup DVDs using swapmagic. (Or a mod chip i imagine). I don't know about CD-Rs though. I'll go ahead and try it out now. =P

Huh. Trying out Swapmagic 3.6 and a copy of Guilty Gear X+ didn't work. =(
This is using the HDLoader 0.7c with the MC exploit.

Tried again with my actual copy of GGX. (ie not using swap magic) same error. =\

Yeah more often than not weird errors occur with CD based games and HDLoader doesn't handle it well. If a game says compatible and you get a fatal error it generaly means it was transfered via Winhiip to make it work. I've rarely gotten any CD based games to ever copy over from the original disk and the only one that comes to mind is Rez.

try installing it with only a name like A if it doesnt work do it again and this time it should work, after installed then rename it, for some reason if you put the whole name in it wont work sometimes, try that and see how you go

I'll try this and post the results.

If this fails, i'll have to use PS2 Link + HDL Dump.
